I guess this is technically “part 3” on my Sky Beta ramblings. You can check the links above for a more in-depth analysis of Sky Beta.
Anyways, if you don’t know, TGC updated their beta policy. They split it into two parts, Live Preview and Beta.
Live Preview has no NDA, and it basically exists as a space to share upcoming content. Beta has a strict NDA and focuses more on playtesting and feedback. (Beta started without an NDA, but its flip-flopped a few times; I generally prefer Beta with an NDA.)
I genuinely love this change. If you don’t know, my big complaint with Beta is that it’s crowded with people who don’t care about playtesting. They only want to see cosmetic previews, and they aren’t useful to beta discussions. The new update eliminates this problem by separating Beta into two groups. If you only care about cosmetic leaks, you can join Live Preview, but if you actually want to give feedback, you can join Beta.
I just hope Live Preview will be relegated to a minor thing, while Beta should be the main focus and given more attention. I think TGC has already soft-confirmed this, with them saying: “feedback gathered through [Live Preview] will function similarly to Live feedback.” This is basically them saying that Live Preview’s opinions won’t matter, unless it’s something REALLY bad. I actually like this, because I think Beta is the place for more focused feedback.
I also wish TGC would add new beta members, and perhaps kick old members away from beta. But overall, this is a fantastic change.
What do you think? What is your ideal view of Sky Beta?
