I’ll start by saying that I apologize if I’m jumping the gun! This is my first time renting so I’m new to a lot of this.

I recently went and saw an apartment, liked it, and applied for it. During the application process I was prompted to pay the last month of rent and if my application was denied, it would be returned to me. My application was accepted the next day and I was emailed the lease to sign. I signed the lease that same day and I’m currently waiting for it to be countersigned.

It’s been 3 business days since I signed the lease and it hasn’t been countersigned yet. Is this a normal amount of time to take? What’s the timeline for these sort of things? Should I reach out to someone?

My move in date is in less than 3 weeks so I’m just a little antsy (if you couldn’t tell lol)!

My (29F) boyfriend (28M) has been unemployed for 7 months.

My boyfriend and I have been dating for a year now. I know all posts start like this but, he truly is amazing. I’ve never been with someone who makes me feel like this and makes me feel so loved.

6 months into us dating, he lost his job. Thankfully, we both still live at home and he’s very good with his money so he had a lot savings to fall back onto.

But slowly the weeks went by and they turned into months and…he’s still unemployed. I know the job market is rough so at first I didn’t think much of it but the more and more I started to ask about how his searches were going, the more I realized…they just weren’t. He wasn’t really looking. I think he’s applied to a total of maybe 15 places in the last 7 months. He was barely looking and when he was, he was being VERY specific about what he was looking for and the requirements the job had to meet. But the kicker is, he isn’t even sure on what he wants to do. He was unhappy in his previous job so I think he’s viewing this job loss as an attempt to start over fresh. Which I totally get, but he’s been researching a bunch of careers, some which will take 5+ years to finally make a decent income and require you to pool A LOT of money into for the first little bit.

I’m starting to get a little frustrated but mostly anxious at the idea of his “job searching”. I want to move in together, go on vacation together, heck, I’m even thinking about if I could see myself having kids or not with him in the future, and he’s making job vision boards…🥲

I asked him if he’d be open to taking a temporary job in the meantime while he continued his search for his “dream job” and he said no. It seems like he’s holding out for this dream job except he doesn’t even know what that is yet. And some of these jobs require so much time and money to pursue that it essentially sounds like our relationship will have to be placed on the back burner for the next few years. That these milestones and experiences I want to do with him will just have to wait.

I’m beginning to feel upset, anxious, and a little frustrated about this all. I’m ready to pursue a serious future with him and it just seems like we’re on two different life paths.

I haven’t had a conversation with him about this yet because I’ve been trying my best to be supportive this entire time and encourage his searches but I feel like I’m just along for the ride and have to just be okay with the possibility of putting some of our and my personal relationship dreams on hold for the next few years.

I love him so, so much. I don’t want to leave him. How can I express these concerns to him while still being supportive of his dreams?

TLDR: boyfriend of a year has been unemployed for 7 months and doesn’t know what he wants to do in life. I’m feeling anxious and upset at what this means for the future of our relationship.
