What were your reasons for choosing the ending in Mafia III?
(Between "Leaving", "Rule Together", "Rule Alone")
Personally I've chosen "Rule Together", but the choice has highpossibly taken me a lot more time than for an average player, all thanks to my overthinking.
I thought that when Leo talked with Lincoln about Commission wanting 20% was an essential information in making the choice. So thanks to that belief, came a vision on how leaving will play out:
-Lincoln leaves without informing anyone
-Vito, Cassandra and Burke (equal districts playthrough) won't be able to work alongside each other and they'll start to want all of the city, which will result in some sort of war between them.
-As a result of the turmoil between the three, Commission won't get 20% and they'll come after Lincoln, killing him in the process.
(Dumb, I know)
Not only that, when Donovan told Lincoln that he needs to take care of the associates ("Bury them before they bury you"), I thought that once I go to the Plantation House, it will be the only option and I didn't want to kill the people that I've worked with throught the whole game.
So it all came down to one question: Lincoln or the underbosses? And in the end I wanted to keep Lincoln alive, though another thing that I had in mind was Donovan's point that if someone won't take the throne, another Sal will show up which I thought was really reasonable. So, in a sense, I was ready to kill them for the "betterment" of New Bordeaux.
But I wouldn't be surprised if someone in the comments, have told me that what I've written above doesn't make any sense because of some rules in the mafia or just the story (And I'm open to hearing them).
