Was digging through old boxes of general chaos and found a BUNCH of old signed stuff. Each of these things I got signed in person, usually after a concert, so there’s a fond memory for each one! Storytime below lol.
That signed setlist is from the first TOD show in Boston. And is the only time they played SWQ on that tour. Which is HONESTLY a good thing because good lord was it UNCOMFORTABLE AS HECK to hear live. None of us wanted to sing the chorus to her for uh obvious reasons, and it felt… kind of weird to rock out to it in general. Idk how it must have felt singing it to us. Got that one signed right after that show! The setlist next to it is from the next show in NYC. I don’t think I got that one signed because I wanted to get pictures signed and didn’t want to be That Person with a thousand things.
First two photos were signed that NYC show, taken the first time I met them in 2004. I actually have a very vivid memory of talking to Amy after she signed it while being semi-squished between two guys, and literally everyone around me was screaming in her face. Others were shoving stuff at her to sign and she was DOING IT without breaking eye contact with me or dropping anything. Both of us locked in trying to hear each other over the cacophony lol. Once I got out of the crowd I was like “holy shit how’d she do that and not go nuts”. Chatting with the guys a bit was way easier bc people weren’t screaming for them like they did for her.
Pic with Tim was taken during the family values tour in summer 07 and signed at the last show in December 07. I think Amy signed the last pic at the “secret show” in NYC in 2009 - it was taken after she was on MTV TRL in December 2006. My friend Tara and I waited to see if we could get into the studio for the broadcast (bc that’s what they did in those days) but I swear they picked everyone who WASN’T an ev fan to go in for that pfft. But since they’d also film the crowd outside from above, we stayed and I think that’s where the NYC cupcakes sign originated bc other people had signs for the cameras too!
Fallen I got signed in stages I think? Like I’d gotten two signatures at one show, another at a second… it’s hard to remember for that one. I do remember being like “OK CAN I GET THE LAST ONE THIS TIME LETS SEE” lol. I think the one person I kept missing was Rocky.
I know I have signed copies of Origin and TOD but I can’t find them ATM. Origin is in a frame like the one Fallen is in, but I couldn’t do that with TOD bc it was that kind of cardboard booklet where everything is one piece. Hopefully it’s still intact lol. It’s bugging the heck out of me that they weren’t with the others but I’m the queen of barely organized chaos soooo they’re probably in another chaos box somewhere lol.
ANYWAY. Just thought I’d share these old memories! I’m not usually one for scrapbooking but I found so much stuff (for other bands too!) that I probably should make one lol.
Made it just in time for the Q&A! So fun, super neat hearing Joe talk about how he found the styles and cameras he likes. Awesome acoustic session and got to say hi to them after! Also Arejay crashed things a bit 🤣
Who else is OBSESSED with this song??? It makes me want to dance and rock out at the same time!
Went to the Rock & Roll hall of fame the other day and had to get pics of Lzzy’s featured pieces! First one is in the “revolutionary women in music” area and the second is in “women in metal”
Overall those exhibits were a lot smaller than I expected but I was excited to see Lzzy featured twice! Just thought I’d share 😊
So I’m curious as to whether anyone knows more about this than I do.
I went to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame the other day on the way home from my vacation. I went mostly because I wanted to see the “revolutionary women in music” and the “women in metal” exhibits. The history they walk you through overall for the genre was genuinely fantastic, I do want to make sure to say.
Now, I did not expect Ev to be included in the metal area, but I was genuinely surprised that they were NOWHERE to be found anywhere, not even in the revolutionary women in music exhibit, which was not limited to the rock genre (and was super neat tbh).
Lzzy from Halestorm is featured in both exhibits, which I was SUPER EXCITED to see! Hayley Williams, spiritbox, Taylor Momsen, and others were also featured! No symphonic metal at all, though, even in the women in metal section (I was kinda hoping to see bands like Nightwish and Within Temptation shown there).
But Ev/Amy is nowhere to be seen and for those of us who do remember what 2003 was like, and how groundbreaking they were for the US rock scene, that seems baffling to me. I’m well aware that the symphonic rock scene was already a thing in Europe before they hit the airwaves, but they didn’t feature any of those bands either.
Also, a caveat: not all of the musicians featured in these exhibits are actual hall of fame inductees. A lot are, of course, but a bunch of the newer artists especially are not. So that doesn’t seem to be a factor.
It was also a lot smaller than I expected?? The entirety of the exhibit area is on one lower level when the building has multiple stories - one floor has jam session spaces which is super cool, for example. The “women in metal” exhibit… is a tiny hallway at the end of the main exhibits. Like. That’s it. I was expecting at least half a floor??? Multiple floors for these exhibits in general??
So yeah, I’m wondering if anyone has any insight into why Ev might be excluded from these exhibits, or how the hall of fame tends to pick artists to be featured? There were some artists included that I was kind of puzzled by, and artists besides Ev that I didn’t see that I would’ve expected to see a mention of, especially with so many non-rock artists shown.
It was still neat to go see, and has a LOT of memorabilia and history packed into that small space. So I’m glad I went overall!
I could have sworn this was in the Wrinkle in Time trilogy but it isn’t and I’m stuck.
I remember reading a scene with a girl protagonist on an alien world. (I’m pretty sure it’s a girl but then again, I thought it was Meg from A Wrinkle in Time anddd nope, so I could be wrong about that too) She has some kind of companion that trills its consonants helping her (“herrrr”) and there are creatures who are out to trick her off her proper path but they always have a giveaway. Usually it’s physical. In this particular case, she notices this girl has webbed fingers and therefore isn’t a real person.
That’s all I remember, though. Any ideas?
I met up with a bunch of DORKS (read: awesome friends with zero chill from evboard) in Philly to see Ev along with 3 Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin and Seether. It was a hot July day. The venue was entirely outdoors. And there were thunderstorms in the forecast.
A very intelligent member of our crew brought a roll of plastic garbage bags in case of rain, since umbrellas weren’t allowed. So it starts clouding over and we start donning the clear, flimsy garbage bags. V chic, by the way. We definitely are not already laughing at ourselves at this point.
So the thunderstorms happen. The DOWNPOUR happens.
And the bags start sudsing.
Because they had sat next to dish detergent for months and residue just kinda made its way into the roll. 😂 so now, we are wet and soapy. SO STYLISH.
Storm passes. Concert happens. It’s freakin great. We all get to meet the bands afterwards too and it’s my first time meeting any of them. I am still not dry from the rain, and I’d just rocked out to 4 bands, so I have no desire to know what I smelled like. But somehow I do not look quite as wrecked as I actually was.
ANYWAY. I love telling this story and wanted to share it. Here are some photos from that day, exactly 22 years ago. Feel free to laugh at us and our billowing trash bags bc we deserved it.
ZERO REGRETS 😁
We had SUCH a fun time! Everyone was so encouraging and funny, we had THREE AUNTIES, and a few adorable little huntrix members!
I made the wig and BOY was that a project. I definitely have a lot I want to rework and improve after today lol. But for my first attempt at her, I’m proud of it!
Also got to meet May Hong and she is the sweetest 💙💙💙
Just came across this and as someone who also freaking loves KPop Demon Hunters… how the HECKKKKKK does this work SO WELL???? My jaw is on the damn floor atm.
Mind is blown. WTF.
Just wanted to say hi 👋
When I say “old school”…I was on evboard and evthreads back in the day lol. Ev was my first band I fell in love with as a teenager. And while albums like Bitter Truth didn’t do much for me, Sanctuary has me absolutely hooked.
Not sure where the general fandom hangs out these days since message boards have gone by the wayside, but… hi, again. Any others here who are of Ye Olde Days?
Tested out a suction cup underwater holder for my “fauxpro” (it’s Akaso brand, but is basically the same thing as a standard GoPro so I call it a fauxpro lol) AND tried swimming with my new tail today! It’s my first one with a vinyl fluke and while it felt CRAZY HEAVY on land, it felt fine in the water! Definitely glad I practiced with it; usually I just use the monofin but the full tail is waaaay different. Boy did I feel like a Real Mermaid!
And yes I know I am v fashionable with my goggles 😎
Hi guys! I do princess parties and have started doing mermaid gigs as well within the last two years. I’ve had finfun tails so far and will be upgrading my blue one soon. I’m in the northeast US and there isn’t much in terms of pro mermaids or mermaid classes near me so I’ve learned a lot on my own. (I swam for years as a kid so I’m comfortable in the water)
Here are my two mermaids - Ariel and an original one, Marina! I sing, play games, and swim with the kids 😊
Lightly gifted Bianca in boxes! Let me know if you’re interested.
