Nothing makes me happier that to see so many of these r/OldCelebrityRecipes come to life. They've been sitting around for decades in old books or newspapers waiting to be revived again, and so many of you here on the sub have made, shared and more importantly eaten these long lost classics.

Thank you to all that have recreated some of these timeless and sometimes timeworn recipes. It also gives me so much joy to share these recipes with all of you from my collection of old celebrity cookbooks and recipes I've researched in old papers.

Personally, I've taken it upon myself to make as many of these old celeb recipes as I can. My motto is why cook a regular meal when you can make a star studded feast?! Haha. You know what I mean. So since June I've been trying to make on average 2 recipes a day. It's been a total blast, and I've learned so much!

Instead of making regular meals for my family, I find a way to make a celebrity recipe. There are so many to choose from, it's been pretty easy to find things we all like. Almost all of them have been very good, with just a few duds along the way.

My list of old celebrity recipes I've made so far this year brings the total to 185 so far! I'm sharing pictures of some of my favorite dishes and the celebrities behind them. Also check out the list of recipes and you'll see there are quite a few from our Joanie (Joan Crawford) and also from Vincent Price and Betty White.

So I encourage you all to try and make one of these wonderful recipes and join in on the fun. We'll be ready for your closeup and go ahead, make my day!

Ciao Lavinia

Today I made Grace Kelly's Pineapple Upside-Down Cake and it's a winner and not that hard to make! Recipe from 1955

Grace Kelly's Pineapple Upside-Down Cake is a great one! It's essentially a traditional Pineapple Upside-Down Cake and pretty easy to make. My family's been asking me to make one for a while, so as soon as I had my hands on Grace's recipe, I was ready to try it.

  • I used my 9" cast iron skillet, but any 9' cake pan would work. Just butter it really well on the sides.
  • I had a can of pineapple rings, so I used that instead of the cubes and with the rings, you get that iconic Pineapple Upside-Down Cake look.
  • Filled the centers of the pineapple rings with a maraschino cherry and added a few pecans to the empty spaces around the perimeter.
  • Preheated oven to 350. This cake baked for exactly 30 minutes and was done, not the recommended 60 minutes!
  • I let this cake cool completely until the pan felt cool and then carefully flipped it on to a large wooden board, but a large plate would work too.

Now to try a slice with a bit of whipped cream... dreamy! It's everything you'd want from a Pineapple Upside-Down Cake. It's sweet, buttery, moist and the juicy fruits add the perfect flavors. The top is sublime with the melted brown sugar and butter combining into a lovely crusty top. This is one cake that everyone loved and disappeared quickly. I'd say it's 6-8 servings. Not a huge cake, but an easy one to make and an even easier one to eat.

Joan Crawford's Floating Island dessert found in Midgie Knight's Hollywood Hundred Famous Recipes of the Movie Stars {1933}

So, back in 1933, this super rare movie star cookbook came out called Hollywood Hundred Famous Recipes of the Movie Stars, and Joan Crawford actually shared her recipe for Floating Island dessert in it.

It’s basically this old-school French treat with fluffy meringue clouds floating on top of a rich vanilla custard.

Honestly, it’s such a perfect vibe for her early career—super elegant, a little fancy, and totally theatrical. It’s wild to think about the biggest icons of Old Hollywood just swapping dessert recipes like everyday home cooks!

And check out a few of Joanie recipes that we've made:

  1. TURKEY AND NOODLES ALFREDO
  2. Pimiento-Stuffed Olives Wrapped in Bacon
  3. Salmon Cakes
  4. French Banana Salad
  5. Breakfast Bacon
  6. Kidney Bean Salad
  7. Pineapple Cottage Cheese Salad
  8.  Tamale Pie
  9.  PEANUT BUTTER BACON CANAPÉS
  10. Danti-Chips
  11. Salami Canapés
  12. Avocado Mash on Potato Chips
