Bee box update 9

It's been about 6 weeks since they first hatched and they are still busy. Much bigger now but they still don't seem to leave the box.

But what monster have they created? 😱

I hope their engineering is better than their spelling

Bloody marketing wonks. You have one bloody job....

Controlling a relay from GPIO

The Devs at work are busy doing what they do and it's left to me to look at the hardware to switch some relays in a prototype. We have used Raspberry Pi and LattePanda SBC before and connected GPIO pins directly to optocoupler driven relay boards. These boards typically draw 3-4mA, well within the capabilities of those SBCs.

I thought we could do the same with the Jetson but it has a limit of 20uA per pin.

What's the simplest solution? I want to avoid bespoke circuits unless there are no other options.

TIA

Bee box update 8

They are growing and now venturing outside but mainly stay in the box by the hole. This was captured earlier today.

Any thoughts on the grub thing that lands bottom centre at about 15 seconds? Is it food?

Btw the camera is looking down and the hole is bottom centre.

Donation of IT hardware - suggestions please

UK based. We have about 20 new Nexcom VTC7110-BK ruggedised in-vehicle PCs to get rid of. They are an old design but unused. Any suggestions for who might be able to use them? I just don't want to WEEE them if possible.

Tonight's meal

Chicken and spinach curry (with added veggies) and naan bread cooked in a bread oven on the barbecue.

All homemade from scratch.

Bee box 7

They are getting bigger and occasionally fly out of the box but stay close They do seem to have red tails but it is hard to tell for sure as the box is high up.

Meanwhile the nest is starting to look like the Clangers planet (showing my age 😂}

Old cub/scout stuff

I'm clearing out my dad's stuff and found this lot. Older stuff from when he was a cub pack leader in the 60s, 'newer' stuff from me in late 70s/early 80s.

Is there any market for these? I'm not looking to make a killing, but don't want to throw them away after 60 years storage.

I will be safely keeping the (now illegal) sheath knife. I remember carrying this round on camps btw 😱

Watch out, there's a Humphrey about

Found on a shelf at my dad's, a pack of Unigate branded Humphrey themed playing cards

Anyone remember Humphreys?

2(CV) in succession

I won't say where but driving along today and saw a Charleston on a driveway. Within 400m saw another Charleston on a driveway.

Must be 6 months since I last saw one

Bee box 4

It's a few days since I updated but they are still in the box and getting bigger. Also doing some home repairs. Note the hole in the nest just right of centre. This was at 1930 yesterday.

I'll post follow ups separately

Bee box 2 - more videos

For those who were interested in my earlier post about the bumblebee babies in my bird box, here's another from earlier today.

Bird box becomes bee box

I have a couple of bird boxes in the garden and installed Raspberry Pis with cameras as a little project a few years ago. One of the boxes I left with last year's nest in it because I'd seen a bumble bee using the box over winter. We now have a bee box with 20+ bumblebees waiting to get going!

Mini bird feeder

I had an old rear screen with damaged heater element so repurposed it.

Now the birds have a covered feeding area 😁

Finally seen them after 40 years. In Chipping Sodbury of all places

Win, win. 30 minute walk from home and one of the best performances I've seen. Tight band playing all the tunes you want.

Sailor, Glass of Champagne. WTF!? ❤️

The first LP I ever bought. I was 8.

Still got the record (the sleeve has my name and y4 class written on it by mum!) but never thought I'd hear it on the radio 50 years later.

Cheers Steve 😁
