Is it alright if all I got for my first summer of medical school was a paid observership?

I just did my first year of med school, and I unfortunately didn't get an interniships or research positions so far, only this observership and I'll help in writing an audit with the doctor I'm shadowing. My other friends got some internships and researching spots in programs, and I feel that I'm not doing enough...

My mom hid my phone like what do I do??

Hi,

So, I was awake pretty early in the morning today, like 4-5AM because my teeth and jaw were hurting a lot, and I had stayed up pretty late that night so I was really tired by the time my pain eased (which was around 8AM) so I went back to bed. An hour or two later, my mom forced me up to help her with some garbage stuff and whatever, but I went back to bed after that and that pissed my mom off. So, when I got up a while later, I found out she hid (or took) my phone before she went to work today! Not only that, but she left me with a bunch of stuff to do but honestly? I'm so pissed that I just don't want to do any of those things just to give the message that hiding my things isn't getting shit done.

How do I come up with a way that she can't take my things away again? Talking to her does nothing since she'll listen through one ear and it's out the other, plus she couldn't care less. I know it's because I'm being lazy to her, since I do get up at 12PM, though I wake up earlier and just stay in bed because I just don't want to see her before she goes to work (the reason why's a long rant). Her taking my stuff and hiding it isn't a new thing, though she usually hides my headphones with my phone being her Plan B when I hide my headphones before she has the opportunity to. I guess I got a bit sloppy since I wish I hid my phone too.

Also, is there ways I should change so that she doesn't get pissed like this so often?

AITJ For not checking in with my family?

Hi,

So, I'm a young person and I live with my family when I'm not at university. My university is abroad and while away, I don't really miss my family. In fact, I enjoy the privacy and being able to do things by myself without having to consult others. I do call them every day while I'm away though. But, while I'm home during my breaks, I see more clearly how I don't really enjoy being around my family or how frequently I forget to check up on them now that I'm home.

Recently, there was another instance where I got up before my parents and did my own thing, and later, my mom came to my room and she called me selfish for not caring about them or coming to talk to the family. Plus, I do my own things independent from her and the rest of our family. I do, at times, avoid them because it can be a bit suffocating being around them too much. I think she might think my actions are selfish because I'm only here for a few months before leaving for uni again.

It's not that I don't care about our family, I do. I just prefer doing my own things and I'm fine going along with things they plan, but I just wouldn't plan things with them if I didn't want to. Now I'm wondering if I really am selfish, so I was wondering if anyone can tell me their thoughts. Also, if there is something I'm doing wrong, I'd like to fix it.

Thanks!
