My childhood vests
Girl Scouts was a big part of my life for a long time. I was homeschooled, so it was one of the ways I was able to be social with other kids that wasn't connected to co-ops/field trips. Plus, my mom was the troop leader, so I enjoyed doing that with her.
When we finally bridged to Cadette, none of the other girls wanted to keep doing it, so I begrudgingly quit. Being in a solo troop wasn't something I wanted to do, but I was still pretty torn up about it. It was the end of an era for sure.
I've considered becoming a volunteer or leading a troop of my own now that I'm grown up, but I'm disabled and have to work a full time job, so I don't think I'd have the spoons. But the memories I have of being a scout are ones I'll treasure for the rest of my life.
pride flags but i made them with animorphs book covers and it looks like shit
Rachel, on Tom (ficlet)
Tom was dead.
It was hard to believe, because the mangled cobra in front of me didn't feel like it was actually his corpse. It was the body of some random snake he'd acquired. But he'd been in there somewhere, buried deep below his scales and his Yeerk.
Either way, there wouldn't be a body to bury. Not a proper, human body, anyway. Not him.
He used to pick me up and let me sit on his shoulder so I could pretend to be Wonder Woman. When I was little, you know? He wasn't much older than me, but he was always bigger. He could do things like pick me up.
We would ignore Jake reminding us that Wonder Woman can't even fly, and Tom would run me around their backyard as fast as he dared.
One time, he tripped, and I fell. Nearly broke my nose. I didn't care. Falling had been a thrill, and I ended up with a small scar to show for it. A really tiny one that you'd never notice unless I told you the story. (It was gone now, of course. It disappeared the first time I morphed.)
He'd felt pretty bad about the whole thing, and insisted that we go to the hospital, even after Uncle Steve gave me a clean bill of health. But that's the kind of person Tom was. He wouldn't hurt a fly.
His blood was still in my mouth. The cobra's blood. I spit it out.
The bear had enjoyed the taste. As for the human, the jury was still out.
Rachel/Marco spread I commissioned from my good friend @beehunterkisser
HUGE shouts out to them for helping to push my Rachel/Marco agenda
An AU where all the canon love interests are shuffled around
It's time for Ship Swap. Instead of Jake/Cassie, Rachel/Tobias, and Marco/Ax, we now have:

🦍🐻 Marco/Rachel: He already sort of had a crush on her from knowing her as Jake's cousin, and their relationship spirals from there. A lethal, efficient team in battle, and they butt heads to show affection. Once official (it takes them a while), they're unhealthily devoted.

🐅🛸 Jake/Ax: They bond over grieving their brothers (and Ax's loyalty to Jake). Both pragmatic and burdened by duty, they end up forming a connection and become each other's confidants. A prince and his knight.

🐺🪶 Cassie/Tobias: The quietest, most introspective characters of the group. They both have strong connections to nature, but they also both understand People. Also, I think she'd best understand his reasons for remaining a hawk, and they'd find solace in each other's presence.

I think these are neat duos because they're based on common ground. Rachel and Marco are both stubborn, fearless loudmouths, Jake and Ax both value responsibility and dignity, and Cassie and Tobias are both emotionally intelligent and sensitive. I think it'd be fun to think about how certain events in the plot would play out differently in this timeline.

Disclaimer: I don't think these should have been the canon couples. The canon couples are perfectly constructed, they serve the narrative and the characters very well, and I love them dearly, too. I just like playing touys :)

Disclaimer 2: I know Marco/Ax isn't technically canon, but they get paired with the other two ships so much that they might as well be considered fanon. Also, AniTV made them really gay, so
🍷Kids Again - a Rachel/Marco fanfic
"Why me? What do I have that Jake and Cassie don't?”
“They'd make me think about it. I don't wanna think about it.”
“You needed a clown.”
“I was gonna say ‘distraction’, but if the shoe fits…”

Fifteen years after the war, Rachel is mourning Tobias, and she's not handling things very well. Marco's place happens to be within flying distance.
I wrote it in such a way that you can read it as romantic OR platonic, depending on your persuasion. Hope you find it as compelling to read as it was to write!
Y'all remember ship charts? Well, I made a ship chart
Be Prepared: Experts Warn That This Polyamorous Relationship Could Expand To Cover All of Santa Barbara by 2001
I love Edriss/Eva's little Earth keychain
I won something similar as a kid in my local library's reading program as a prize for how many books I'd read!
ALSO I didn't even realize you can see Visser One in the reflection of the mirror until last night. I may be stupid
My official, personal ranking of every book, fresh off of my re-read
Link to the tier list I used, if you'd like to make one, too
I ranked all of these in real time as I read each one. The only one that got moved around after the fact was The Mutation and The Unexpected. I do love those, but they just don't have as much of The Sauce.
The Mutation is weird, and I love when things get weird, but I wish we got to see more of the Nartec. And I was really into the actual plot of The Unexpected, but I moved it down a tier when I remembered that half of the book is just on that damn plane. LOL
Ax's first book is in N/A because human is not his default form. If a Tobias book pictures him in the background as a ghost, I put it in N/A because that he wasn't morphing in and out of that outfit. The ones in "questionable" are there because it's possible that they're wearing black leotards.
I discovered this album yesterday, and I'm kind of blown away. I can't believe more people aren't talking about this! It's got TWO songs about the Hork-Bajir Chronicles. Definitely worth a listen, especially if you're a screamo/metal fan (I don't really listen to that genre, but the lyrics are worth looking at, and there's enough songs in other styles to find something to enjoy!)
At the very least, you gotta read the lyrics to some of these songs. Here's the Genius link.
My standouts are:
- Yourtown, Anywhere - Great track about the dire nature of the war in general
- the fugue - Written from the POV of Temrash 114 as he dies in Jake's head. Insanely intense.
- THESE MESSAGES: Ġļöbůļëş, Țħëŷ'Vë Ġöť Țäşťë! - Less of a song and more of a funny, fake radio ad for Globules. Target audience: Ax.
- it's either tragedy or it's stupid (this is INSANE) - Song from Marco's POV. Just a good song.
- Rachel: Warrior Princess - Probably my favorite of the bunch, but I might be biased cause Rachel's my fav. Seems to be from Tobias's perspective, and has a REALLY awesome moment where someone, likely either Tobias or Jake, yelling at Rachel to morph out. Love it.
- aldrea - Aldrea talking to Dak Hamee after she becomes Hork-Bajir. Sung in a bit of a scratchy tone, to emulate a Hork-Bajir voice, I think. Really poignant and beautiful exploration of her regrets.
- hive mind - Haunting instrumental that heavily features the sounds of insects buzzing. While listening to this one for the first time, I got distracted reading a review for the album, and I kinda slipped into the music and forgot it was playing. Sort of gave me a unique simulation of losing yourself to the insect hive mind, in a way; my brain just sort of shut off for a second.
- hirac delest - Again, less of a song and more of a short piece of audio art. You'd think this one is about Elfangor, but it's actually Rachel's hirac delest from the end of the series. Makes me want to cry. The person voicing Rachel does a PERFECT job of delivering her last words.
