How do you guys store random parts and hardware and what kind of containers to you use?

I'm doing a full reorganization of my workshop and I have two big boxes full of random parts from old equipment and projects, random hinges, brackets, bolts, braided steel cable. Just for some examples, a wall bracket to a space heater that I no longer have, shelf support brackets to shelves I no longer use, old drawer slides, casters from old shelf units, a hand-winch that I bought for a project I never did, etc.

I want to keep all/most of it, because I often do dig through it and find something useful when I need a creative solution/fix to a problem.

I think my plan is to organize them by some simple categories. So maybe a bin for door hardware (hinges, door nobs, latches, strike plates. Maybe a bin for old furniture parts, couch legs, levelers, etc. A bin for electrical related stuff. A bin for plumbing related stuff. etc.

Curious about how you guys handle this. How do you guys organize your random parts. And what kind of containers do you use?

Need advice on what to put behind workbench (can't comfortably reach back there).

I'm building a new workbench in a single car garage (around 9'x17'). I'm integrating a table saw on one end of the bench and a miter saw flip top in the middle of it. Because of the dimensions of the table saw and the miter saw, the bench effectively needs to be 38" wide.

Because the room is so narrow, I need the bench to live up against the wall. The problem is, I'm not going to be able to reach behind the bench - where I had planned to install a pegboard and hang tools.

What should I put back there instead? A few ideas I've come up with so far:

  1. Hang hoses back there for the dust collection system.
  2. Maybe put a pegboard anyway and hang tools that are bulky or rarely used.
  3. Power outlets (I need to upgrade the electrical anyway - currently only has 15 amps of service).
  4. Hang scrap wood.
  5. Blue tooth speaker and/or internet router.

Just typing this out made me come up with some of these idea. But wondering if anyone has an idea that's better than all these.

Thanks!

I feel like drinking the water on the tables is just asking for trouble lol

I just watched an episode where the guy is pouring himself water right when the trial starts. And I was like - oh boy, the judge isn't gonna like that lol
