Does a backline need a frontline unit RIGHT in front of it to be protected? Or can they be placed anywhere on the frontline?

Main thing is there any benefit to frontline being right in front of the backline person or does that only hinder you due to things like piercing damage?

Just wondering if you have to keep moving units around when dealing with spears.

Camera icon but can’t take picture to “research product”?
