Painful Dress Straps - Solution?

Hi friends! I'm an August 2026 bride and I just got my wedding dress back from alterations and it fits perfectly!! The only issue is that they weren't able to complete the strap alterations I requested because they weren't sure if the best solution would be sewing something in or simply using some sort of tape.

The issue is that there's some scratchy mesh under the straps and just wearing the dress from a few minutes, I'm certain it would irritate my shoulders to the point of bleeding if I don't do something about it. Obviously I don't want that. So here I am, asking for advice!

Does anyone know what the best way to make straps less scratchy is? At first I was thinking of sewing in some silicone on the underside of the straps to cover that scratchy mesh, but now my tailor is wondering whether some sort of rubbery double-sided tape situation might actually work better. And it might. I dunno. I do like the idea of it because tape would also help keep the straps from slipping down, and if the tape is thick and rubbery, that would add some padding that would also lessen the irritation.

The straps themselves are pretty thin - so anything too wide would show on either side. Clear/transparent tape or material would be ideal. Just to show me what he meant, the tailor whipped out a little piece of thick rubbery double-sided 3M wall tape and stuck it under my strap for a second as an example (it was what he had on him at the time) and tbh it was kinda great lol but I really don't think that stuff is made for skin xP

So, any suggestions DEEPLY appreciated. Anyone else experience similar (painful or scratchy straps needing padding/coverage)? What did you do to fix it? Or does anyone have any general suggestions of stuff that's good to use for straps?

Any and all advice welcome, please and TYIA 🙏

TLDR; my wedding dress straps are too rough against my skin and I need to cover them - what should I use?

Hi all! August 2026 bride here, located in southern NH, near Manchester. Looking for an alterations seamstress for my wedding dress (running a little behind, I know!).

Reached out to a few and both KK Tailoring in Dracut, MA and Alterations by Arti in Windham, NH seem available and willing to do my dress! Wanted to ask here if anyone has had any experience with either of these two seamstresses - would love to hear about your experience with either, or any other recommendations you have in the area! (Unfortunately Alterations by Anna's Daughter will not be available for my timing, so that one is a no.)

Thanks is advance!
