Has anyone tried wireless, stick-on sconces? Are they wall paint safe?

Hi everyone!

I am looking to upgrade the ambient lighting in my rented home without creating a mess of wires. It is very tempting to get one of those stick on wireless sconces/wall lights from Amazon but Im very worried they will rip off the wall paint when I uninstall them.

So far Ive used command strips for paintings and artwork and not had a problem. But i dont see any sconces with command strips options :(

Has anyone tried these? Are they paint safe? How do you tell? They are not advertised as such on Amazon or elsewhere.

Thanks so much!

What’s wrong with my Jade? Should I trim it down to the stem and start from scratch?

Hi everyone,

I have had this Jade for about two years and just kind of let it do its thing, watering now and then. I’ve recently started learning more about plants and want them to thrive not survive—which I realised this Jade hadnt been doing because it probably wasnt getting enough light and watering was inconsistent.

I recently changed out its soil (used a succulent and cacti mix a little over a week ago), and repotted it in the same pot (with drainage holes) because the roots didnt seem big enough to warrant a bigger pot. Afaik, it didnt seem to have root rot. It also has a pup growing in the same pot. Both of them are a bit etiolated because of insufficient light. I only water it deeply if the soil is completely dry.

I have also tried to get it slowly acclimated to better light - bright indirect throughout the day from south facing bay windows, and a couple of hours of morning sun directly. The goal is to acclimate it to lots of direct sunlight especially as we head into fall and winter when it’ll anyway be scarce.

Couple of things have happened since -

  1. It initially got sun stressed and lost a few leaves (my bad, i hadnt learnt about acclimation then). Since then it had been doing better but the other day, most of its bigger leaves were barely hanging on and fell off with the lightest touch. The small ones on top seem fine, and seem to be getting a light reddish-purple tinge underneath which Ive read is a response to getting sunlight so it’s not a bad thing?
  2. The bottom cm of the stem of the pup seems to have become blackish - it isnt mushy or slimy, sort of shrivelled and woody, so I dont think it is root rot but is this normal?
  3. The stem seems to have some brown scabbing. I dont know what this could be from, any ideas?
  4. I am considering if it just makes more sense to trim the stem to a stub and start from scratch. Is this a good idea? If i do so, should i continue the acclimation to more light, increasing 30-60 minutes every week or just leave it by the window to get as much light as possible?
  5. If i do trim it, what should i do with the stem that has the leaves? Should i repot it straight into soil in its own little pot? Should i try growing it in water?

I really want this Jade to thrive y’all and Im doing my best. The photo shows the plant right after repotting. The bigger leaves along the stem have since fallen off, and the smaller ones on the top are intact.

Please be kind and all advice welcome! 🙏🏾

I really want this Jade to thrive y’all and Im doing my best. The first photo is what the plant looks like now, and the second one shows it with the big leaves that have now fallen off.
