Whats happening to my lovely leaf?

I recently repotted with some good chunky soil from soil ninja and the plant as a whole is absolutely thriving. 4 new leaves in the last month, new fenestrations all over the place, but this has also happened on one of the older leaves.

Help my old rubber plant!

I’ve got a very old and large rubber plant that for two months has had gradual yellowing and dropping of leaves.

Leaves in the lower half of plant have been gradually getting stippled then yellow then fall. I’ve lost 5-6 in two months. Growth was good until the most recent leaf on the main stem. Branch growth still seems ok.

It’s in a south facing window in the UK and gets good sun all day. It’s in a large pot with drainage holes - I’ve checked roots and it’s not root bound. I wondered if poor watering and UK heatwaves had caused stress but it’s only gotten worse despite moving it away from window. I’ve not got loads of evidence for pests (no webs, no obvious signs under leaves) but am at a loss.

I wondered if
- nutrient defiency (but fed a month ago and has only worsened) hadn’t really fed before that
- sun burn/ watering stress? But have been very careful for two months and it’s only worsened. Tried moving away from window and shutting blind in heatwave/full sun days.
Help! I love my tree.

Calathea Makoyana repotting question

I have had to repot my calathea makoyana yesterday night, as having come back home after 3 weeks away and a heatwave, the soil was barely dragging any water. I have had it for over a year and it's a mature calathea at about 70cm tall. It did not need any more room in the pot, so I repotted it in the same size pot but with a different soil disturbing nothing from the root system. In doing so, I've only added soil at the bottom and at the top, as there was no room around the root system. Is this wrong? Should I repot it in a larger pot in spite of not needing it? My logic at the time was root system + old soil + new soil in new pot should be allowing water to work its way around it

Looking for an indoor plant!

I am planning on having my first plant. I am restricted to indoors plants currently. My room has plenty of sunlight and I am looking for a plant that grows relatively quickly ( I am not certain of the specific strain/name, but I am looking for ivy plant).

I did pop in to the local home bargains plant area, it had a large selection of plants, but not what I was looking for.

As a complete beginner, all help and guidance is welcome and greatly appreciated.

What’s wrong with my Jade? Should I trim it and start from scratch?

Hi everyone,

I have had this Jade for about two years and just kind of let it do its thing, watering now and then. I’ve recently started learning more about plants and want them to thrive not survive—which I realised this Jade hadnt been doing because it probably wasnt getting enough light.

I recently changed out its soil (used a succulent and cacti mix a little over a week ago), and repotted it in the same pot with drainage holes because the roots didnt seem big enough to warrant a bigger pot. Afaik, it didnt seem to have root rot. It also has a pup growing in the same pot. Both of them are a bit etiolated because of insufficient light earlier. I only water is deeply when the soil is fully dry.

I have also tried to get it slowly acclimated to better light - bright indirect throughout the day from south facing bay windows, and a couple of hours of morning sun directly. The goal is to acclimate it to lots of direct sunlight especially as we head into fall and winter when it’ll anyway be scarce.

Couple of things have happened since -

  1. It initially got sun stressed and lost a few leaves (my bad, i hadnt learnt about acclimation then). Since then it had been doing better but the other day, most of its bigger leaves were barely hanging on and fell off with the lightest touch. The small ones on top seem fine, and seem to be getting a light reddish-purple tinge underneath which Ive read is a response to getting sunlight so it’s not a bad thing?
  2. The bottom centimetre of the stem of the pup seems yo have become blackish - it isnt mushy or slimy so I dont think it is root rot but is this normal?
  3. The stem seems to have some brown scabbing. I dont know what this could be from, any ideas?
  4. If i do trim it, what should i do with the top of the stem that has the small leaves? Should i repot it straight into soil in its own little pot? Should i try growing it in water?

I really want this Jade to thrive y’all and Im doing my best. The first photo is what the plant looks like now, and the second one shows it with the big leaves that have now fallen off.

Please be kind and all advice welcome! 🙏🏾

IKEA is the place for Peace Lillies

The quality and size for the price is pretty amazing in my opinion. £8 for the large one in the middle, and £3 eack for the other two.

After 4 years my Hoya - Wilber Graves has finally flowered!

It’s crazy because it’s still in its plastic cup from when I got a prop and has barely grown, my Krimson Queen is pampered and a whole bush at this point and shows no sign of flowering.

Flower spikes damaged after falling over.

Two of my orchids were knocked over today while in bloom and lost majority of their flowers. I had 11 flowers on the pink orchid and now have 2 still attached to what’s left of the spike. I had 8 flowers on the white one and now also have 3 but the spike that they’re attached to is bent (but not broken surprisingly but still concerning).
The ones in the photo are just the ones that broke off from the fall but are still in good shape to press, which I like doing. I threw the rest away.

My question is, since it’s still winter where I am, would cutting the spike right above an unopened node trigger new growth and therefore new blooms? I could just leave them as is but it makes me sad seeing them like this, especially since they haven’t been in bloom for that long.

Can fungus gnats cause my jade to literally drop it's branches?

My jade has had a quite a bad case of fungus gnats over the past few weeks, despite the traps you can see on the photos. I'm about to treat it with nematodes today and I find it's lost one of it's 15cm branches?! All the leaves that were lost were pretty healthy too. Is this the fungus gnats doing or something else? I also added cinnamon to the soil a few days ago.

You can see the spot where it lost the branch in the 2nd pic

What Houseplants can I grow in clay Loam/ Chalk Loam Soils?

I have an abundance of Chalk Loam/ Clay Loam soil - are there any house plants that can be grown in these soil types easily? If so should I add perlite or anything else to the soil mix? I don't have much experience with house plants but would rather put this soil to good use than chuck it away!

Plant/TV wall

I love having an indoor jungle and it’s my first time buying a TV for my own place. I don’t love the look of TVs and haven’t owned one in the last 6 years. I wanted to keep my plants in a place where I could see them often: sadly I don’t have much space near windows and even though they get some natural light I’ve added some grow lights. Thoughts??
