Storing medicine- UK heatwave

With the recent heatwaves, and the higher temperatures we’ll be seeing later this week, I’d thought I’d share this advice from the MHRA.

I’ve noticed my medicine hasn’t worked as well as it usually does in the last month, and I didn’t make the connection between the heatwaves (as hot as 35 degrees some days) and the impact it may have been having on stored medication until today!

Living alone - dealing with neighbours?

Visited an apartment today & put in an offer. A neighbour in the block (there are 4) caught me and the estate agent whilst we were leaving & asked me if I would be living here alone or with family. I sort of stammered, and said ‘just me’. He asked me my name & gave me his, and said its a quiet area, they don’t like loud musics etc and prioritise safety.

I really like this area & the apartment, but feel like I failed my first test. I doubt he’d be keeping that information to himself. My biggest concern is that I’ve given myself away, to people who can definitely monitor / watch my comings and goings.

How can I manage this ? This js my first time renting & living independently so any advice is helpful.

How did Tamlin survive 500 years as a HL when he seems pretty defenseless against daematis??

Was just re-reading ACOWAR, and in a scene towards the end of Chapter 2, Feyre defends Tamlin & Lucien from the Hybern royals daemati attack, then retaliates, which prompts Tamlin to ask ‘What’s wrong?’ as if he didn’t have a clue what was going on.

Which is really confusing me, because surely as old as he is, and how long he has been HL, he should have had an inkling to Brannagh and Dagdan’s abilities and what they may attempt? If not, and the only reason he survived that dinner with his mind intact was because of Feyre, how on earth has he managed to stay alive and in power for as long as he has??

Maybe by pre-emptively defending against the attack, we didn’t get to see what shields Tamlin has, if any, but I’m pretty sure this is not the first time Tamlin has demonstrated vulnerability to daemati abilities, case in point being the multiple times Rhysand held / attacked Feyre, and his lack of any defensive ability except ‘pretty please stop that, Rhys’.

In ACOMAF, Tarquin seemed to have some solid mental shields, which if iirc, was because he got some training especially. Tarquin is only 60 and a newly minted HL - compared to Tamlin who’s 500+ and has been HL at least a good few centuries.

If you don’t need to be daemati to have mental shields, and training is sufficient, then why in the 1.5 years he and Feyre were together, did he not teach her a thing or two?

So far, the theories I’ve come up with to try and explain:

  1. You need to be daemati to protect against other daemati - so Tamlin had a reason for not teaching her, but does that mean Tarquin is also? (very holey theory)
  2. Most Fae have some sort of shield, but Feyre is an especially / uniquely talented daemati, and Tamlin / Lucien’s perceived vulnerability is skewed by her narration of the story.
  3. Feyre is an OK daemati, most Fae’s mental shields are OK, but her HL connection gives her an edge over other HL’s and their heirs.

Helping a friend leave

My friend of 3 years is experiencing domestic violence at home, perpetrated by her younger brother, and enabled by her siblings and parents.

Police have been called a few times, and she now has a restraining order, but her parents allow the brother back into the house and do not want to ‘disown’ him, but they are putting her in danger. Recently, he physically attacked her, threatened her with a knife, and her injuries were severe. Two of her siblings were home who saw what happened, and when police came, they lied about what happened, and said my friend was the one who attacked first.

I proposed the idea of the two of us moving out together (I also live at home with my parents), and my parents were ok with it until I told them about her situation, and now they do not want me to move out with her for fear of retaliation from her family and me being collateral. We’re both women (24).

I understand where my parents are coming from, but I also don’t want to abandon my friend, and unsure of how to help her leave. Finding a place is the key thing but renting in our city is pretty expensive - together, we would be able to, by independently, my friend wouldn’t.

Any advice would really help.

Also, apologies for the slightly incorrect flair, but closest description.

Feeling happier after taking meds

I’m currently finished with titration and stable on a dose (Concerta / methylphenidate) and in the process of agreeing shared care with my GP.

I’ll be making an appointment to discuss this with my GP, but as it’s technically not a bad thing? I wanted to ask here first, so I can go to that appointment with more of an informed understanding.

I usually take my dose in the morning between 8-10am, and about 2 hours later, I start to feel happier, more hopeful about the future etc. It’s definitely a nice feeling, and I feel more human. Before I was on Concerta, I was on Affenid XL ( same dosage), but that made me feel anxious and restless, and didn’t improve my mood that significantly.

I wanted to know if anyone else on Concerta / methylphenidate has also experienced improved mood and mental wellbeing as a side effect, and whether that’s something to do with Concerta, or just being medicated?

If helpful context, before I got diagnosed, I would often have long periods of low mood, and have seen a therapist/ psychiatrist for it but depression was never identified, though they did say I have some symptoms of anxiety.
