457(b) to Existing Rollover IRA

I am starting a new government job and considering opening a 457(b). I would invest in a SP500 index fund but the 457 account is with empower. I currently have a rollover Ira with Fidelity from an old 401k I rolled over.

Down the line, If I want to rollover the empower 457(b) into that Fidelity rollover Ira, is that something that I can do? The 457b index fund I’ll be buying is not purchasable thru Fidelity, would I have to sell it all before rolling over from empower t o Fidelity? Taxes?

IBR vs RAP, thoughts?

Long post incoming. Im on SAVE and thought I wanted RAP for the intrest subsidy but IBR seems better once i go thru everything. Really huge decision so looking for advice.

My total loans are around $225K (rip) but all federal. There is a solid chance I can do PSLF but also want to prepare for the worst. I used this cite and US finaid to come up with these numbers (https://studentloanplans.app/) and assumed my income would increase 3% and inflation 4% annually. AGI is low 6 figures. I’m single but engaged

IBR (w/pslf): Monthly payment range $692-879; total paid $94K, amount forgivn in 10Y 275K

IBR (NO pslf) Monthly payment range $692-1143; total $217K, amount in 20Y $325K

RAP (w/pslf): Monthly range $892-$1163; total paid $123K, amount in 10Y $218K

RAP (NO pslf) monthly range $892-1315, total paid $509K (!), amount in 30Y $2K

IBR + PSLF looks like the correct call, but hate the idea of loan growing- not sure if it would impact future mortgage, etc.- and I know there would be a tax bomb. Any advice is appreciated.

Repayment Calculator Accurate?

I’m on SAVE now, looking at the repayment calculator on student aid.gov

For IBR: it says $445 a month, total to be paid $131,077, ending balance $300,608, end of term 10/2044

For RAP: $451 a month, total to be paid $353,312 (!), ending balance $155,731, end 6/2056.

Am I misunderstanding something? Assuming IBR is actually 20 years, wouldnt total paid be (445 * 12) x 20 years =106,800

And why is Rap $353k? (451 * 12) x 30=162,360

I also thought RAP was a slam dunk for me, not so sure now

Certify employer and PSLF buyback

Hello, need some help.

I graduated from college in 2022, worked for a local government from 8/2022 to 9/2023 then private company then state government from April 2024 until present. I’ve been on SAVE since July 2023 but have never certified my public employers, which was dumb of me. My payment was $0 the entire time, even pre forbearance.

How can I go back and certify I worked/still work for a government all this time and is there way to “buy back” the forbearance months (and would they be $0?)

Thank you!!!
