Clueless Mother [suggestion]

My son, who never really asks for anything, would like a gaming pc set up for his room. How do I do that without spending an arm and a leg? What exactly do I need to buy for this set up and whats a reasonable price for everything? TIA 😅

[Discussion]Rate ChatGPT's opinion

My original question was a PC for Roblox and dual monitor that could last quite a bit under 1000 CAD$

Hes suggestion is to wait for a pc with RTX 4060+ 16GB with either a RYzen5-5600 or I5-12400F in the 950$-1000$ range.

So far they are in the 1150-1200$ range.

If I cant wait, he mentions a RTX 3050 , 16GB, RYzen 5 5500 in the 900$ range.

How much can I trust him/it ? 😄

Cheers

Getting my first gaming PC, is this good? [itg]

Hey there! I’m looking at getting my first ever gaming PC and was wondering if I could send the link to someone (I’m not sure if im allowed to put it in this post or not) to check it out, as I’m quite nervous as it’s my first time and don’t wanna mess it up😂I am paying a company called AWD-IT to build it for me and I get to kinda pick the parts and stuff, and was wondering if this is good and seems okay, I’m looking for a PC that can run good frames and generally for competitive gaming. The kind of games I play are Rocket league, F1 25, Fortnite, and I’m sure there’s some more I can’t think of😂I’m willing to pay maybe £100 more so if there’s any parts you think are worth changing for that little bit extra let me know, but I probably won’t spend any more than that. Thank you all :) please feel free to comment or message me if you’re willing to take a look, or if I am allowed to put the link in this post I will do that also, thank you.
Edit: I got the link:) :

Looking for pc recommendations

I’m looking to buy a pc that’s capable of light gaming eg roms and old games like spore, and movie watching, with a smattering of writing. First time buying a pc and I know basically nothing. My budget would be $500 usd and I don’t need it to come with keyboard, mouse or monitor. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Pre-built gaming PC for around $1500 [Suggestion]

Hello! Looking for a pre-built gaming system, looking to spend around $1500. No monitor needed. Having some flexibility for upgrades down the road would be great. Got burned by an Omen mobo that's hard-locked me out of using the full speed of my RAM (my bad for missing that at time of purchase), and I'd like to avoid that moving forward. I've looked at some PowerSpec builds ... they seem fine? Thinking of taking a run to MicroCenter, but I am very open to suggestions.

Thanks!

Update: spent a bit more and got the Powerspec G760. First time at a Microcenter - great experience. Thanks all who chimed in!

UK Prebuilt Advice: £2,800 Budget / RTX 5080 [suggestion]

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to buy a prebuilt gaming PC in the UK. Building it myself isn't an option for me, so please don't suggest that.

I have a £2,800 budget (flexible) and want a build featuring an RTX 5080. Lots of websites to choose from but I don't know where to start.

Any help is appreciated.

[Suggestion] Looking to purchase a medium-to-high-end desktop for gaming. Maybe some first time shopping tips as well? <$1000 budget

Hi all,
I've had a ramshackle pc built out of hand-me-downs and $70 newegg parts for the last several years and I would really like something more... modern. It's currently rocking Radeon R9 200 series and some 2011 AMD eight core. Needless to say, outdated.

I just finished college and can spend more time gaming moving forward, and I have a good sum of cash to spend, ~$1000 max budget. I know this won't afford me anything cutting edge, but hopefully something with at least a RTX 4060 and more than 16GB RAM. I really just want to make sure it can comfortably handle some of the newer things that have come out recent years, even if not at the greatest settings.

As someone who has literally never bought or built a full PC, I feel lost with how many options there are. Are there recommendations for specific builds that match what I'm asking? Or a good place to look? In my search, I've seen E-bay listings for prebuilt pcs around these specs for $700-$900. I'm willing to buy used/refurbished as that's an obvious way to save some money here.

Also, trying not to break the rules but I thought it worth asking: would I be saving a lot building something? I started to do some research on what it would price out at, as I've heard it can save some cash. I don't need a parts list or anything, just some upsides and drawbacks.

I've been gaming for a very long time, but the second things get technical my head starts spinning, so finding this subreddit is a lucky break! Thanks ahead of time for any discussion/help.

is it still the case that prebuilt PCs are cheaper than custom-built due to the RAM crises?

title, something I heard a while ago and imagine RAM hasn't gone down. looking for the best way to time myself into getting a new computer. hopefully this isn't a rules violation since I'm not asking for suggestions on which prebuilt to buy, just if the dynamic of this being a uniquely bad time to build your own PC is still the case

Are these good deals that for around 4200CAD in prebuilt world? (Canada/CAD)

Wanna know if these are good deal or I can find better deals for 5080 pre built. I can also build my own but heard because of the ram prices you might get a fair deal with prebuilts nowadays!
Appreciate the help guys.

[Suggestion] PCs under $1500

My current PC is one I built literally 10 years ago and it is so outdated I need a new start.

I would love to build another, but parts got so dang expensive and I need to upgrade everything and want to start somewhere.

I'm looking for:

- Under $1,500

- 12GB VRAM (will settle for 8GB)

- Nvidia graphics card preferred (30 series or higher)

- Open to Intel or Ryzen CPU

- 16GB RAM

Would really like:

- A decent size case (I like full towers because easier to upgrade, no biggie if it's a mid tower though)

- An upgrade-friendly PC (this is probably the norm, but mentioning just in case)

- Good customer support if problems occur

- Decent warranty

- Financing options

Thanks so much for any recommendations!

[Suggestion] Looking for gaming + everything pc

Ok so gaming + everything is a bit of a stretch but bare with me. I currently have been using my very old, very slow Alienware alpha gen 3. It's bad I know... So the last windows update was the final nail in the coffin. It legit froze trying to open the boot menu. RIP.

I am on a very tight budget and would need to pay using a payment plan like affirm. I have a relative who I die hard build it from scrab or buy second hand and upgrade a few parts. I don't want to have to do that. I don't mind buying a decent but not perfect prebuild with the mindset of upgrading a few pieces here or there. As long as it comes able to upgrade in the future I am good.

As for my gaming + everything here's the main rundown of what I use my computer for:

  1. Gaming. I love video games and am an avid fallout 4 player. I also enjoy games like the sims, burnout paradise, planet coaster, Minecraft, etc... I would be interested in newer games assuming the PC can handle it. My little alpha barely handled fallout 4 on a good day. My game style varies so some casual games but also some heavy fps games. So it would have to handle both.

  2. Music. I love my music and am still a physical media girlie so I would be ripping CDs to the PC a lot. I have an external cd drive so that's not an issue.

  3. Photos. I love photography and do some minor photo editing as needed. Nothing to fancy but like intermediate level editing at time.

  4. Office documents/ creative endeavors. I am the crazy kid that loved just playing around on PowerPoint and publisher for fun. Now it's mostly canva. But you need a flyer? I got you. Want an excel spreadsheet? I'm your girl. Etc..

  5. I browse the Internet. Nothing too crazy.

Please send ideas and help me out. I'm losing my mind not having a PC to get on. Phones just aren't the same.

Need help deciding on a PC

Hi! I’ve been a console gamer for over 15 years now and decided to bite the bullet and finally get a PC!! However…I have truly no idea where to start. I’ve tried researching on websites, shops, youtube, etc. and I’m just getting so many mixed responses. I’m incredibly lost.

I’m leaning towards building my own mostly for the experience but because I’m scared of getting a prebuilt one that would cause me to replace all my parts in the near future.

If anyone has a cool amazon shopping list (or any other site) with a full pc build it would be incredibly helpful!

My ideal budget is $1200 or lower but if the list you provide is truly worth it, I could try a build for $1500. I’m a very casual gamer into story games and the occasional online ranked gaming.

If anyone sees this and provides me with some help, I SO appreciate it! (Bonus points if I can make the interior light up blue)
