Damper at 10 for a drag factor of 125 - is it probably just dirty?

I've been out of training for two years (injury) and just gone back to my local gym.

The rowergs which I used to set the lever on about 5.5 for drag of 130, now need it all the way up and one tops out at a drag factor of 125.

They are still smooth to row and seem fine otherwise. It is likely just dirt build up?

I'm going to volunteer to clean them, if that's likely all it is. I have the service details (I used to own one at home, many years back).

Return item from UK to China: Weight/Size is incorrect on DHL label from seller

Departure Country: UK

Destination Country: China (people's republic of)

I'm returning a faulty smart display to China, to Seeed Studio. They have provided a DHL Express Worldwide shipping label by email, but the fine details on it are incorrect.

The item net weight is given as 0.01kg, gross weight as 0.5kg, and parcel size (on DHL's web page to book the collection date) as 1x1x1 cm. Edit: display is 0.5kg, total parcel is 1.4kg, size is 36 x 32 x 20 cm.

Is that going to be a problem if I book/confirm the collection on DHL's website? Or is it just standard practice for a return arrangement?

I'm wary enough of just returning an item to China, let alone it having incorrect information on it.

Do they usually ride something with two wheels, perhaps?

They were there the whole time I was in the supermarket and left the supermarket just after I did (I saw from the road on the way out). I couldn't resist a photo for us to laugh at. The car park had plenty of spaces available that they had to drive past to get to the small slots.

E1003 with Sensecraft HMI widgets - never updates after first apply

I started playing with the E1003 yesterday, using the Sensecraft HMI to make a simple calendar display (component-calendar) and the date (basic-date/time). After discovering that it can only be set to update the display on a timer (not an actual time - not impressed) I set the interval accordingly...

The design uploads to the E1003, but then nothing ever updates.

At first I set it to update every 1440 minutes (24 hours) and uploaded the design to the E1003 just after midnight yesterday, so it should have updated today. By 1:30 am it still had not.

I tried setting update rate to 30 minutes, and added the time widget so I could quickly see if it updates after 30 minutes. After uploading the design again, over an hour later and it still hasn't updated once.

Pressing the green button doesn't help - I get a little tone from the speaker and that's it.

The E1003 is online, the SenseCraft page says it is. I even updated the firmware to the latest 1.1.5. What am I doing wrong?

Edit: Surely these widgets are supposed to update automatically, are they? If not... what's the use of them?

Outlook (Office 2021 Pro) keeps putting its icon back on the quicklaunch bar - how to stop it?

This is starting to bug me now... I've removed the icon repeatedly and done a couple of supposed 'fixes' that the internet told me. Every few days, Outlook adds its icon back to the quicklaunch bar. I don't want it there (because it messes up my toolbar layout), I have the toolbars locked, I've deleted it manually from the %AppData%\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch folder. It still keeps coming back randomly.

Any idea how to kill it?

It started doing this after I had to do a full reinstall of the PC a month ago. Never done it before but I didn't do anything differently on the install.

Best large e-reader for *me*

EDIT: I've just ordered the Boox. Thank you all for the comments.

---

I would usually spend a month researching this myself and figure it out, but I'm short of time (holiday coming up when I would like to have an e-reader) so for once, I'm asking after a brief search. I'll use it long after this holiday, so want to get it right.

I want an e-paper reader, largish screen (thinking 10.3"). My eyesight is rubbish, but wearing reading glasses gives me a headache so I use the slightly longer focus glasses that I use for computer work. Hence wanting a bigger screen for ease of reading (without having the font so big I only get two words to a line), because it will be slightly out of focus at reading distance. That seems to cause less of a head problem than reading glasses do. I know from experience that reading on my iphone is not pleasurable, with either glasses.

  • I've narrowed it down to the Kobo elipsa 2E, or the Boox 10.3 Go Gen II Lumi. Anything else I should consider that's not much more expensive than those? I note that the Boox is higher resolution; does it make much difference?
  • I've not much interest in using it to take notes. Reading only, so pen response isn't a factor.
  • A light for night reading is essential (bad for the eyes as it might be).
  • I don't want to be limited to any particular ecosystem so not considering Amazon's offerings.
  • I have a huge collection of ebooks, technical manuals and publications, in all sorts of formats: pdf, epub, azw3, and a few other outliers.
  • Ease of uploading from my NAS via a PC would be very much appreciated (glaring hatefully at you Apple!)
  • Not particularly interested in colour displays, as I've read a few comments that a plain black and white is better for reading (and is mostly all I would need anyway).
  • Edit to add: I won't touch the cloud with a ten foot pole - local storage please :)

So... any comments are appreciated to guide where my money goes.

Long shot - does Sig Sauer HDX Pro 16x50 fit in the Eberlestock Bravo?

If you know, you know... It's a long shot but does anyone have them both? I forgot to put Zulu6 in the title; its the Zulu6 HDX Pro 16x50.

I have the binoculars inbound, and need a chest harness/pouch. Sig Sauer's own doesn't fit them (it says it fits the HDX, but the longer Pro isn't listed and the pouch dimensions are slightly too short).

The Eberlestock Bravo might fit them, it's a bit wider and taller than the binoculars, but only 2.5" front-to-back. Sig says the binoculars are 2.63".

Returns aren't an option because I'll have to import it (I'm in England), so I could do with knowing if the bino's will squeeze in there.

Physically impossible advert

This is the most outrageous advert I've seen on Amazon, and I've seen some doozies...

I was looking at torches (flashlights to the Americans) and Amazon suggested this one instead; it's delivered by but not sold directly by Amazon.

500000 lumens... absolutely, ludicrously, physically impossible. An outright lie of astronomical scale. Such a flashlight doesn't, and likely never will, exist.

Amazingly it has over 10000 very positive reviews!!!

The advert goes on to say it has a 30W LED which, if the LED were 100% efficient (it isn't) could only give a maximum of around 10000 lumens. Not 500000. That's just basic physics (about 350L/W absolute max).

To power it at 500000 lumens would require at least a 1.5 kW generator to run it.

Has HP ever used Origin Inception branded SSDs in their PCs?

I bought an 'as new, open box, never used' HP 800 Mini a year ago, with warranty (I registered it on HP's site).

Yesterday the SSD failed, and the diagnostics (and the label) tell me it's a "ORIGIN Inception TLC830 Pro NVMe 512GB"

There's no HP label on the SSD.

Did I get scammed, or is that actually used by HP?
