I'm not super familiar with Vince's style of writing but know he is highly regarded. Overall I'd say I enjoyed it. It's very well made, very well acted, shot, scripted, ETC.
My problem is...
It's way too "Open For Interpretation" for my tastes.
I critically think about storytelling. I'm an aspiring writer myself. It's a switch that never turns off. During this whole experience with the show, I kept thinking, "What's the message?", "What does this mean?", "When will this come full circle?"
It never really came full circle narratively. I left feeling... dissatisfied. And with discussion of others, learning about the kind of writer Vince is, I know I will never get the answers I want. The answers I feel the story should (in my opinion) answer.
As an audience member, I am satisfied. As a writer, I am not.
You all see the theory crafting here, many I figure are tired of those theorists sharing their perspectives which tend to be a bit outlandish. I usually love a well made analysis video myself, but by God, are the analysis videos on Pluribus very frustrating to watch. They make little sense to me.
But the thing is, these people think the same way I do. They went into this show expecting a message or something to make them think about for a long time. They left disappointed, and feel the need to fill in the gaps themselves. THIS IS NATURAL WITH MASSIVELY OPEN INTERPRETATION STORIES.
I don't believe every show needs to tell a complex though provoking story. Absolutely not. But please, don't be belligerent to the people who desperately wanted Pluribus to be. They just want to discuss ideas and concepts within this lovely community. It creates a very toxic environment when we dismiss others that think about media in a different way. Sometimes, venting about a problem they have with the show is all someone needs to move on.
