New to hobby - How to lower costs of getting new BJD?

hi! completely new to the hobby and planning to 'make' one in the image of my OCs, but since I'm a student, my disposable income is pretty meager (I do have enough saved up to get the most basic of dolls, though)
Is there anything that can be done to lessen the overhead costs and subsequent maintenance? Thanks!

Clarification: currently, I'm planning on asking a friend for help with the faceup and learning how to make (simple) custom clothing, but the overhead for wigs and additional modifications + future maintenance still exists :(

Core Material - PVC vs PP Pipes

Hi, I've come across two sources of (cheaper) boffer/LARP weapon materials: PP (polypropylene) pipes and PVC (polyvinyl chloride) pipes
I am somewhat familiar with PVC pipes after doing some research, but PP pipes are still relatively new as a core material to me (mostly because most people choose PVC over PP)

What are the pros and cons of each material? Additionally, are there any weapon types that discourage using a certain core type (PVC or PP)?

Thanks in advance!
