Getting this for 2K worth it?

Got the Casio D418 for 2K. Worth it?

Managed to get it for around ₹2000 after discounts. I know the online pricing for this thing is all over the place and sometimes goes absurdly high.

What do you guys think? Fair deal or still overpriced?

Finally joined the club 😎

Had to go for the classic resin strap because my collection lacked a proper watch for swimming..... can't wait to wear this outside 😊

How do I acquire an HMT mechanical watch online?

Is it even realistically possible to buy an HMT mechanical online anymore?

I’m from a state where there’s no official HMT showroom, so online is basically my only option. I’ve been trying for months to get something like a Kohinoor, Janata, Pilot etc. from the official website, but it feels impossible.

Half the time the watches are permanently “out of stock”, and now models like the Kohinoor mechanical don’t even seem to be listed anymore. I keep hearing that HMT has stopped/limited movement production and that the whole company is slowly winding down. From what I understand, most manufacturing stopped years ago and they’re mainly selling leftover inventory or outsourced models now.

Meanwhile resellers are asking absurd prices for even basic models.

I’ve seen people say:

- the site restocks randomly for a few minutes,

- Bangalore stores still get some stock,

- bots/collectors grab them instantly,

- or that mechanicals may never properly return again.

Some people even say they checked the site 20-30 times a day before finally getting one 😭

So I genuinely wanted to ask collectors here:

- Has anyone successfully bought a mechanical HMT from the official site recently?

- Are Kohinoor/Janata/Pilot mechanicals effectively discontinued online?

- Is there any pattern to restocks anymore?

- Are there reliable ways to track drops?

- Or is the only realistic option now paying reseller prices / buying NOS pieces?

I really wanted to own at least one classic Indian hand-wound HMT, but right now it feels like trying to catch a mythical creature.

Another thing that confuses me is the whole refurbished/aftermarket scene.

Sites like Tawakkal Watches,Watchtopia, Watchitmove etc. seem to be the only places where these classic HMT mechanicals are actually available regularly. But then people say most of these are refurbished/modded/franken watches with aftermarket dials, cases, straps, hands etc., and sometimes even questionable movements. Some buyers say they work fine, others say the watches stopped working within days or had crown/movement issues.

And from what I can tell, most of these sellers don’t really provide proper warranty or long-term after-sales support either. If something goes wrong, you basically have to go to a local watchmaker yourself.

So now I’m wondering:

if I somehow DO manage to buy directly from the official HMT website,

- Does HMT still properly honor warranty/service requests?

- Is their support responsive nowadays?

- Are official HMT mechanicals still genuinely “new old stock” with original parts?

- Or is the difference mainly just authenticity + warranty card?

- Has anyone here actually used HMT warranty recently?

At this point I honestly can’t figure out whether I should:

  1. keep waiting endlessly for an official restock,

  2. buy an aftermarket/refurbished piece from Tawakkal/Watchtopia,

  3. hunt local vintage stores,

  4. or just give up on owning a proper HMT mechanical 😭

Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated appreciated 🙏🫠

Hey everyone,

I’m new to watches and wanted some honest opinions.

I recently bought a Sonata Poze field-style watch mainly for the aesthetic. I already knew it didn’t have proper water resistance, but I was okay with just being careful since I liked the look.

My original plan was:

•Use the Poze for now (for the field watch vibe)

•Maybe later get a Casio MRW-200H for water resistance

•And next year, ask my parents to gift me the Casio AE-1200WH-1AVDF (Casio Royale) for my birthday (I actually wanted this one more)

But then I randomly found the AE-1200 for ₹2069 on Myntra, which felt like a really good deal… so I bought it now instead of waiting.

So now:

•I have the AE-1200

•Planning to return the Poze

•Cancelled the idea of MRW-200H

Now I’m second guessing a bit.

On one hand:

•AE-1200 is the watch I actually wanted

Way more practical (100m WR, features, durability)

On the other hand:

•I kind of jumped the plan and bought it earlier than intended

•Lost the field watch aesthetic for now

•Could’ve waited and gotten it as a gift

So my question is: Was it smarter to grab the AE-1200 deal now, or should I have stuck to the original plan and waited?

Also, what would you do next:

Just use AE-1200 as a daily and later buy a better field watch?

Or would you have kept the Poze for variety?

Appreciate any thoughts 🙏

Hey everyone,

This is my first post here, so if anything sounds off, please ignore it.

I’m a student, so I don’t really have a big budget. I wasn’t originally planning to buy another watch right now, but I wanted something simple with a field-style look, and I was also thinking of pairing it with a NATO strap later. So I was trying to get the best deal possible.

I already have a small collection… Timex dress watches, Casio A158, a sporty Sonata diver-style watch, and a smartwatch. I was actually planning to get a Casio Royale next year and stop there, but this Sonata field-style watch (SP70011SL03) caught my eye because of the 24-hour military-style dial, lume, and the overall design, especially at such a low price for a known brand like Sonata.

So I first bought the blue dial version for 771. Then I saw the black dial version listed for around 750, so I cancelled the blue one and ordered the black. After that, things got a bit confusing because the blue one I had cancelled suddenly came back in stock at 654. So I cancelled the black one and reordered the blue at 654.

What made it even more confusing is that when I first bought the blue dial, it immediately went out of stock like it was the last piece from that batch. The black one also went out of stock after I ordered it. But when I cancelled the blue one, it suddenly restocked again at a lower price, while the black one never came back after cancellation.

So I basically ended up bouncing between stock and price changes and somehow landed on the lowest price without planning it.

Now I just wanted to ask a few things from people who might know this watch or similar Sonata field-style watches better.

Does this model usually have lume only on the hands or also on the triangle markers on the dial

I’ve seen mixed opinions so I am not sure what is standard.

Also about water resistance, there is no official rating but I saw a gasket inside in a teardown video

So I am guessing it might handle basic splashes or hand washing, but I am not sure if it is safe to treat it like a normal daily watch or if I should avoid water completely.

And about durability, I have heard mixed things. Quartz should generally be fine long term but some budget Sonata watches apparently stop working after a while. It does have a 12 month warranty though so that gives some reassurance.

I would appreciate any honest feedback from people who have used this model or similar ones....
