My Skunk is coming today!

Hi again!

My spotted skunk is arriving today, she is hand reared from a breeder. I saw a comment that spotties have a different personality than the striped (the ones I am used to rehabing/owning) can anyone go into detail about this? Or is it a case by case situation? All the striped skunks ive met are very chill and only spicy when its play time. Thanks for all and any advice!

New baby!

Hi!

Im expecting my new baby skunk this Saturday. I had previously hand reared wild skunks as a rehabber in texas. One was not able to be rewild due to a foot deformity. She lived with us for 8 years and was an amazing family member

My question is, how do you go about bonding with a skunk that has not been dropper/bottle raised from birth? I of course have the baby sling and plan on treats and cuddles 24/7 since i stay at home. But I am nervous there might be an adjustment period when we are getting to know eachother. How do they do with socializing? My skunk took cues off the cats, chickens, dogs etc on how to respond to humans, but we never took her out and she never really left the house except for medical stuff.

The skunk I raised potty trained herself to go in a covered pet carrier with shredded newspaper, i read they also like puppy pads since they cant den in them..although my rehab girl was very fastidious in keeping her food, bed and bathroom area clean and seperat, she was very easy and affectionate...she had ZERO interest in being outside.

If anyone had tricks or ideas on enrichment activities, potty training, bonding etc, i am all ears. All the websites say the same thing but nothing beats 1st hand knowledge. Should I have multiple litter places around the house? She was way less ferret like and emulated dog and cat behaviors, she could copy tricks and knew her name.

Here is a photo of Mildred (Milly) at the top.

Thank you!

Big surgery or am I just over estimating myself?

Hi!!

42 F , never had kids, no dramatic weightloss , no health issues. In 2010 I got breast implants starting at a full B small C to a DDD and recovered from that really well. In 2022(1?) I got a skinny BBL w/liposuction 360 and although uncomfortable i did the full 8 week recovery never once sitting/laying/leaning or putting any pressure on my hips or butt. My surgeon said my transfer retention results were at almost 70%! Which i was veeerrryyy proud of. I also did all the lymphatic massages and any aftercare I could.

For my bbl I did 5 days in preop aftercare mainly because all the beds in my house are super tall and there are stairs, so its not like I needed professional help ,my house just wasnt conducive to getting around and I honestly wasnt sure what to expect after such a big procedure.

Fast forward! End of this month im getting my breast redone (no lift) a life style lift for my neck and jaw line and a labiaplasty , all at once. My surgeon suggested 2 days of aftercare at his surgery center because its so many procedures at once but I think if I can just get home, ice up my lady bits and chill on the sofa that staying in hospital won't be necessary? My friend is going to stay with me and my partner will be there too.

My question is...has anyone done multiple procedures in such different areas and what were your experiences? Would you have liked the option to stay under medical supervision for a few days or would the comfort of home out weigh the 24/7 supervision? Am I thinking since I've had body work done before that I can just handle it all being at home or is that just me being stubborn and foolish?

Anyone who had had neck work done or labia work please chime in too, both of these are new to me! Ive only seen my friends recover from them and it seemed pretty low key. Thank you!!

Considering a Tibetan Mastiff!

Hi everyone!

I am looking for a companion/guardian dog for a large single story house with a nicely sized backyard that opens up to a public golfcourse in the middle of the city. I'm an experienced dog owner and am very competent with early socialization, training and behavior. My roommate has a Great Dane who does great to visually make people second guess coming up to my back fence and has a beautiful big bark

,but she will be moving within the next few years and my pit mix is an old lady so shes losing her gusto when it comes to being "first on the scene". I dont want a barky dog ( already have some very vocal toy Aussies), but rather one that with a intimidating look, will think for itsself and be deserning on who/what to bark at, and i definitely am not one of those people who wants a big agressive dog cause its "tough" or "scary". Im not interested in one of the big 3 (dobies, rotties, GSD) because of the cancer and other genetic health reasons that seem to come with them. Grooming isnt a problem, although after living with our GD a not so slobbery dog would be nice. I rescued and fostered a deaf Dogo Argentino who would have been a lovely addition besides the whole cant hear anything aspect, but I live in a very sunny state and was constantly worried about her getting sunburnt!

The dog im looking for would have 24/7 indoor access, would be living in a very social house with kids (none living in the house) and people always coming in and out, but everyone is frequent and regular guests, so no stranger danger, just a daily active household. Have dogs coming over for play dates as well as living with several smaller dogs and occasional fosters/rehabs of many critters. They load up and get out of the house daily for drive drives and ride alongs with me or my friends , so never couped up, unless they opt out like my pit does. She just doesnt like leaving her house.

All the sites I've been looking at are very complementary towards TMs as aloof companions and intelliget guardians so I want some real life perspectives please! I do live in an increasingly hot state (yay climate crisis) but all my dogs fluffy or smooth coat have been handling it well with ample AC and brushing out the undercoat monthly or as needed.

I wont be pursuing purchasing a puppy until ,at the earliest, next year, so I have time to weigh options.

If anyone has other breed recommendations that is appreciated too! Thanks in advance! 🐶❤️
