Tiny Skunklet in My Back Patio

Just saw this itty bitty lone skunklet outside my back door for second time in three days. Thankfully my resident stray kitten Gillie knows to stay back, despite her curiosity. How old might this tiny guy be? Is he even old enough to be out on his own?

Skunk killing baby deer?

How common is it for skunks to kill baby deer? Google is saying its very rare but its happening right next to me right now. It’s dark so I couldn’t capture video (nor do I really want to film something like that) but what is definitely a skunk seemed to be attacking what is definitely a baby deer based on its silhouette and the sounds its making. It seemed like it was trying to drag it into its den. The shouting of the deer has been going on for almost 30 minutes now.

Some other ppl in the neighborhood tried to separate the skunk by throwing sticks/ rocks even though I told them not to, since this is just kind of circle of life stuff i assume. But how rare is rare according to google? There’s nothing I should do here, right? As much as it sucks to hear a baby deer in distress I figure I should just let nature do its thing.

My resident skunk. 🖤🤍

Skunk lives under my patio. he comes out every night. When he sees me he waddles away so slowly with his big butt. He doesn’t cause any trouble except sometimes I smell mild skunk smell 2x a week that doesn’t last long lol.

Saw the most adorable family today!!

Apologies for the horrendous quality/camerawork, I was too busy staring at the cuteness overload in front of me to notice where my phone was pointing, lol

Old enough to be alone?

Hello! My neighbor noticed this little group wandering their yard and hiding in bushes. Mom doesn’t appear to be around and neighbor did find a deceased little one a bit further back in the property (said it may have been attacked by something). Are they old enough to figure it out on their own or do we need to try and take them somewhere? Thanks!

Idk what to do...

I found this little guy on my way home from the store. It had rained really hard earlier and he was covered in dirt. I felt bad and didn't want him to die bc I didn't see ANYthing around except crows. All the places are closed right now. I live in Ft Worth TX. He's in my kitchen in a small box. A wash cloth for warmth. I just gave him little droplets of water bc I googled it and I don't have what they need nutrition wise. Hopefully in the morning someone will come and give him the home he needs. Any recommendations?
UPDATE I found a licensed person from a sanctuary to come get him!! He's gonna be alright!!

Rat Poison

Rat Poison

I wanted to share something important for anyone using rodent poison around their home or property.

Rodenticides don’t just stay with rats and mice. When a poisoned rodent is eaten by wildlife, the toxin moves up the food chain. This is called secondary poisoning, and it can seriously harm or kill animals like owls, hawks, possums, skunks, raccoons, foxes, and even larger predators.

There have been documented cases of wildlife exposure across the U.S., especially with stronger, long-lasting poisons. These chemicals can remain active in the body of a rodent long after it’s been poisoned, which is what makes them so dangerous to other animals that scavenge or hunt them.

Because of this, some states — including California — have taken action to restrict certain types of rodenticides (especially second-generation anticoagulants) in order to protect wildlife populations.

I’m not posting this to judge anyone’s choices, just to raise awareness. Many people don’t realize how far the impact can reach once poison enters the environment.

If anyone is dealing with rodent issues, there are also non-poison options (traps, sealing entry points, habitat control) that can reduce harm to wildlife.

AHN is a great resource if you notice an animal needing help. Always contact multiple rehabbers at a time because of their schedules.

State wildlife websites also provide resources for rehabbers and help ❤️🐾

Since it seems a folly to have a pet skunk where I live, would it be nuts to try to attract and befriend a skunk that’s left in the wild?

Fight Night - YouTube

I had no idea skunks made those sounds! Warning: Intense action and loud sounds. No skunks were visibly injured and were witnessed later in the evening feeding again at the feeders as if nothing had happened. Such is the life of a skunk...

Help in IL

Hi,

There are four orphaned babies outside my work. Apparently in IL, no wildlife rehabber can take them. What should we do?

Thank you

Normal for skunk to be eating during the day or could it be rabies?

We feed feral cats in our back yard, and place cameras near the food. Today a skunk has come several times during the day to eat. We had seen the skunk sometimes at night, so I stopped putting food at out overnight. Should I be worried about rabies? We are in San Francisco.

Edited to add a photo I just downloaded. She does look pregnant, I think? I don't know how they normally look.

Skunk and Friend?

So last night was a bit of fun. My sister and I were just sitting out on the porch, when the runt of the orphaned kits comes up to tap for a snack. I look down and about had a heart attack. With it, was this chunky grey thing with a long tail. My first thought was, Shite! a rat! ( my daughter keeps a few chickens so not too off base thinking that)

Nope! Darn thing turns around and it's an adolescent Possum! Just chillin with the baby skunk.

We sat very still until they both wandered back into the yard.

Top that off, this morning, again, out on the porch ( we smoke outside, not in) and just as sassy as they are, a flippin Racoon comes strolling up. It got to the rail, front paws up, looked up and..Surprise! hahaha. It looked like..crap, I got caught..then just casually wandered back out of the yard.

It's been interesting around here.
