Just took delivery of my watch today, so this is far from a review and more of a first impressions. I’ve seen tons of Phorcydes posts today both good and bad, so here’s been my experience so far to add to it.

I placed my order on April 19th, and the watch arrived to my door on May 16th. Of course it should be noted part of the shipping timeline was the change from the original NH35 movement. I paid $219 shipped to my door.

Because I know it will be asked - yes I do have a signed crown on my model, but no I do not have a signed clasp. I’m not sure how to tell which version of the bracelet I received, but would be happy to check if someone can tell me what to look for.

Thankfully, mine arrived fully working as far as I can tell. It seems to be ticking along just fine. My bezel as far as I can tell is aligned and the rotation is crisp.

I really like the fit, finish, and feel of the watch. All seem perfectly acceptable for the price range, at least to me. I especially like the quick release on the bracelet, and the on the fly adjustment on the milled clasp.

The lume is the star of the show, but I’m sure no one is surprised by that by now. As you can see from my pictures, calling it a flash light isn’t far off haha. I opted for the mixed lume colors (non retro) and I’m happy with my choice. Originally I was going to go for blue with the thought that the markers and indices would be more white during the day, but I’m happy with these.

The watch also came with the leather strap which I don’t remember being listed as included with the sale, so that was a pleasant surprise. It is soft and very flexible, and pairs well with the watch.

I do have a few “cons” or “negatives” but thankfully nothing deal breaking. The first being I found the screw driver shipped with my watch was a tad too big to actually remove the pins on my bracelet. I have other tiny flatheads for my other watch repairs so I was able to get around this, but seemed like a little bit of an oversight. I’m also a little sad that the leather strap doesn’t feature quick release even though the bracelet does. I wasn’t expecting to get the strap in the first place, so over all it’s still a welcome surprise in my book.

This is my first Attesa, and the watch is something else. I didn’t find a lot of actual wrist shots when I was doing my research before buying, so I wanted to add to the collective.

This thing is absolutely stunning. The different finishes just play in the light so well, and so does the time zone bezel. The dial is executed so so well. The super titanium, eco drive solar charging, and satellite time keeping are such a great package.

The natural Ti color is so awesome. You can see in the first pic depending on the lighting and reflection it can almost appear black, but in the later pictures it’s that gunmetal grey. I was on the fence about not getting a black coated Attesa, but man am I happy I went with this finish instead.

Then the bracelet, this bracelet from citizen is straight up witch craft. It is insanely light, and it feels like almost “metal fabric” on the wrist. The links are so comfortable and the weight of the piece literally just disappears. You could sleep in this watch it’s so comfortable. My only slight gripe is the lack of any OTF or micro adjustments. I was lucky and fit really well just removing links. The watch does have a clever micro adjustment! It is a three position OTF adjustment using the clasp release buttons

The case lines, the finishing, and the materials make it feel like the light is bouncing off of a cut gemstone rather than a watch. It is a seriously nice piece.

Well it was a hard choice with a lot of back and forth. Really it boiled down to this for me:

Cool JDM history and EL backlight VS newer module/model

And honestly, the story and EL won me over. If this was the only watch in my collection, or one of very few, I probably would have gone 5000u. It definitely makes more sense, especially financially to just own the newer model. The main feature of the new module that pulled me was the current time display in the different modes, especially in world time mode to track both time zones on one screen. I rarely use timers and stopwatches on my watch so those weren’t as big of a deal for me.

For my collection however, I chose to collect the older OG 5000. It just edges out the 5000u in cool factor and it just kind of feels like the more “collectible” watch. The EL is also just so much more pleasant to my eyes over the newer LED. The all Japanese paperwork is cool to have too.

While I am of course keeping all the original parts, I plan on doing a few “upgrades” to make this my ideal square.

I’ve already added the Ti bezel, but I am keeping the original resin strap. Casio did some witchcraft making this strap, it is THAT good and comfortable lol.

Next I am adding the STN screen upgrade to improve the viewing angles, the screen is on its way now

And lastly I am changing the pushers to black to match the new bezel. After these changes it will be basically the perfect square for me.

Thanks to everyone that participated in my survey the other day. I was very torn between the two, but my heart went against the vote and decided on the OG.

So long story short, I decided to mod my GW-5000

I wanted to add this aftermarket bezel and the STN screen upgrade

Bezel went ok, when I got to the screen replacement I realized I had the STN for the GW-5000U and not the OG 5000. So I reassembled the watch including taking out and reinserting the battery and ordered the correct part

Well after assembling the watch the buttons no longer function, I cannot get any signs of life out of all four buttons. I’ve tried reinserting the battery again and performing the AC reset a few times. I’ve also made sure I didnt bend any of the contacts.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me? Did I somehow kill my expensive square? Any advice is extremely appreciated!
