Don't LIke to be political - but a vote for TOP = a vote for a yearly 1.7% property tax on top of your rates.

I find that scary, and not good for anyone who owns a home in NZ. Council rates are bad enough!

Is in the Mitre10 Number 8 hard wearing lawn seed mix suitable for a roadside lawn?

It appears to have a mix of seed - and just needing a cost effective hardy lawn for roadside that has pesticide to stop the birds eating it.

Went out for Dinner in Auckland CBD last night - it was busy which is good for Auckland Central.

Also as I walked to my car, a largish group of teens on bikes with face masks and dressed in dark colours came riding past into Britomart square...hope they weren't up to any mischief but simply going for a night bike ride. Otherwise, Auckland Britomart area and restaurants packed and buzzing last night - good to see!

Who is the cheapest power supplier for electric/gas ? I'm looking at changing suppliers and currently with Mercury.

Does anyone have a reasonable priced power/gas supplier they can recommend changing to?

People in the UK seem to think Auckland is the place to move to for a great life - is it?

I keep hearing people here talk about Auckland and NZ like it’s basically the “reset button” country. Had a few people at work this week saying they’d leave the UK tomorrow if they could. Same reasons every time... wages feel stuck, rent is stupid, getting a GP appointment feels like winning a raffle, trains barely function, and everyone is just tired. Fair enough, honestly. But then Auckland gets described like this magical coastal paradise where people finish work at 4, head straight to the beach, buy a nice house with a garden, and somehow don’t spend half their salary just existing.

Is that actually true, or is this one of those “we watched too many pretty drone videos of Waiheke Island and Queenstown” situations? I’m not even saying this sarcastically. I’ve caught myself looking at jobs in Auckland lately, then somehow ending up on boring adult tabs about visas, rentals and shipping, because I’d probably want to bring a few bits from home rather than land with one suitcase and pure optimism... Then reality kicks in and I remember I know almost nothing beyond Lord of the Rings, rugby, and that your supermarkets apparently cost a kidney. Plus, I've heard the traffic on your motorways is a total disaster.

So what’s the real version from people living there?

Are salaries decent compared to the cost of living in Auckland? Is housing really as painful and soul-crushing as people say? Are there actually jobs for ordinary people, or only if you’re in healthcare/IT/trades? And is the lifestyle genuinely better, or just better-looking from 11,000 miles away?

If you shop at New World you apparently need to swipe you club card first to get discounts...

I just saw a post that showed a very small notice in New World supermarkets saying that you need to swipe or scan your club card first to get the New World Club Card discounts...if you swipe or scan after..you don't get the discounts...makes no sense to me!

I am a foreign student with a project to act as a company who wants to potentially expand into New Zealand in the dairy industry (exports). Would a foreign company from America have many issues with crime, terrorism, or corruption? Would the company have to worry about environmental impact or use of land given the smaller size of the country? Or is that already something the government does well, like policies protecting the land? Would the company have to recognize or understand anything having to do with the Maori people? Do you have any thought on Maori people as an NZ citizen. How would you enter into NZ as a company in this industry (joint venture or something like that)? Would you as a NZ resident want an American company doing business like this or not, and why for either?

I know I can just google information but I a seeking information form a NZ local perspective. If there is absolutely anything you would like to share from my example questions or not, it would be much appreciated. THANK YOU!

The mango seed has rooted and shooted! It's still in the shallow jar of water, but I've moved it from the hot water cupboard to on the warming shelf of our Stanley wood range. The shelf generally keeps between 20°C and about 38°C so it's a solid tropical temperature. I check and change the water every couple of days.

The seed has a bit of mold growth, but it hasn't bothered the root or shoot so I'm also not bothered by it. I'm thinking it might almost be time to get a bit of dirt involved.

I haven't started another seed yet, but the next time I'm at the supermarket I'll see if mangoes aren't an outrageous price. We're still a month or so out from Kesar season, but I'm also going to pop in to the local asian supermarket and see if they're planning to stock them this year - hopefully I can get my name on the list for a box when they come in.

In case you missed it, the [first post is here](https://www.reddit.com/r/nzgardening/comments/1sb0z8e/growing_mango_from_seed_wairarapa/)
