Octatrack for live band setting
Hi everyone! I am looking around for a sampler to use in a setting of live band. I have put my eyes on the Roland Sp404 mkII but I have always been fan of Elektron boxes' design and workflow so I am really tempted to go for an Octa (even though it's the financially and probably musically less clever option).
I mainly play piano/keys and I am trying to expand my setup for an experimental jazz/impro project.
My needs are:
- live looping and live mangling of incoming audio streams
- live sample triggering and tweaking
- improvisation (including live resampling and various fuckery)
- rhythmic sequences
I have understood that both machines are capable of doing that in different ways but I am a bit worried on the fact that the Octa may be too much sequencer-centric and I would like to avoid being too reliant on clocks (since as I said it's a live band situation).
I am a DAW user so I don't really need the Octa as a brain for my other gear.
Has anyone ever used an Octa in a live band setting with a drummer? How do you use it and how does it work for you? Thank you in advance!
