Might be considered harsh by Blinks: Jennie's new single was underwhelming to me
Am I the only one who thought Less Than A Lover was eh? LIke its not bad by any means. I just noticed the breathiness of it a lot more than I do in other songs with that breathiness and it kinda took away from the lyrics and did make it difficult to understand at points (now I am half asleep but we grind baby). I liked the instrumentals and its a sweet song... but it just feels like every other song out rn. I do like that the song isn't the typical "money, s*x and fame" trope that comes from her and Lisa AND I found the aesthetics of the MV and the release in general pretty cute. Its just the song was underwhelming.
Maybe I've fallen out of love with Blackpink, which is sad considering they were my intro to kpop in 2023-2024.
The song i'd rate like a 6/10. Not bad, not going on the playlist as of now. Maybe it'll grow on me.
(EDIT 7/24: I have read the comments. In no way, shape or form did I intend to come across as hateful or to play the victim of a fandom card. I can see how it comes across as such, and I truly am sorry for that. With the comment about bracing for bad reactions: again, I am not trying to play a victim card, but I have seen what happens when someone dislikes something about Blackpink and how SOME, NOT ALL Blinks will attack someone for that opinion. I brace for that sort of thing when posting in Blackpink specific subs when my opinion will most likely not be the majority. I do that with lots of things, not just kpop opinions. And when it is kpop opinions, it is across most if not all fandoms. In no way, shape or form was I trying to come across as condescending, rude, or hateful to people who liked this song, Jennie or Blackpink, and I sincerely apologize for that. Unless I don't know what I'm doing, for some reason the "This may be harsh for Blinks" from my title, and I am sorry I put that there in the first place. I apologize to any Blinks I offended in terms of my comments about the fandom. About listening to Jennie's music: I should state I have listened to her entire discography. And yes, not all of her songs are about money, sex and fame. Examples being Starlight, twin, ZEN, etc. I should have stated such in my post, but several of the songs do come across with that materialistic vibe to me. NOT ALL, but enough of them that I've noticed a pattern. Examples being LIke Jennie, with the IE, Mantra, etc. I should have stated that not all of her music is that way, and again I sincerely apologize.)
