How to paint foam shield?

I want to add some details to the Epic Armoury Krom shield, preferably with some type of paint. How would I go about doing so? The shield is foam, which is very appealing to me from a safety standpoint. Plus, it would look badass with my armor. My only issue is that it's somewhat bland and I'd like to add a bit of flair.

Coolest playthrough I've dome yet, and it hasn't started

I just played through Shattered, which takes place in a timeline where Alduin has destroyed skyrim, and you defeat him in the aftermath. WELLLLLL I really liked my character, but after you destroy Alduin, there's nothing left to do, as EVERYTHING IS WIPED OUT. I tried to delete shattered and essentially, "reset" the world without losing my character, and it WORKED. Here is how I wrote the Prologue to the, "new" campaign.

Or at least Bruniikah-Hiraak had thought...

Upon seeing his destiny as the dragon slayer realized, and upon felling the beast god alduin, Bruniik was dissected to the most basic form of his being, and thrust back and forth as if a bug in a jar. Down across the field, a shadow was cast. A shadow of black wings unfurled.

The all too familiar scales shone with an ugly and ethereal glimmer. T'was the dragon. The dragon he'd broken. The time dragon god Alduin.

As he looked upon the land, it was as it was before. Like a bad dream, he'd awoken to his new reality. The reality before he broke the dragon upon his lance.

Now, a shard of a shattered world, a revenant of a time that never was, his blade was called upon once more.

Answer his blade did, to free the world that came before, and undo the shattering before the gavel falls on Tamriel.

TLDR: Defeating alduin in his future timeline forced a dragon break, thrusting him back in time, and now he has to stop the apocalypse

Is this a cool idea? Lmk

Just wanted to share my Roman style kit so far, it's not historical by any means, but I love what I've got so far (photos courtesy of my lovely girlfriend)

Side note: the nylon spatha is not what I generally run, I usually carry my Epic Armoury spatha
