Speeding isn’t our biggest issue.
Vegas car insurance is insane, but I think we focus on the wrong things.
Every day I see people blatantly run red lights, weave through traffic, and drive like idiots. Add DUI to that in a 24-hour drinking city, and surely these should be bigger enforcement priorities.
Meanwhile, I regularly see cops running speed enforcement on wide, divided roads with relatively low limits. Sometimes it feels more like a speed tax than targeting genuinely dangerous driving.
I have a kid. If police resources are limited, I’d rather see cops around schools at drop-off/pickup, catching speeders there, or red-light runners, reckless drivers, and aggressively targeting DUI.
We also need to manage traffic better. Sitting through three light cycles while the other direction is empty creates congestion and frustration. Houston has tested adaptive AI traffic signals and reportedly reduced delays by around 15% during congestion. Why aren’t we doing more of that here?
And no, I’m not advocating for more Flock-style surveillance.
Would better traffic management and targeting genuinely dangerous driving make Vegas roads safer — and maybe eventually bring our ridiculous insurance rates down?
