We Crunched the Data: There’s a Grocery Price Emergency in America

Related to discussion from EK and here about whether the economy is doing well and how we tell: the authors claim to measure the economy by tracking a budget for a family of four with a household income of $130k.

They say, "According to our calculations, the math has stopped adding up for this family over the past 18 months. They had a small cushion in 2024. Now they are in the red after covering just the basics, such as housing, an Affordable Care Act marketplace health care plan and day care. The family has over $1,000 less than it did a year and a half ago. Rising costs have more than wiped out any gains from higher wages and recent tax cuts."

I wonder if this is a better way to measure the economy as felt by regular people. I know that grocery, gas, healthcare, and rent are top of mind for basically everyone I know.

Do I need specific flooring under a clawfoot tub? Best waterproof bathroom flooring options on regular wood joists/foundation....other than tile

(Yes, the joists were built to support the weight of the tub.)

I had marmoleum previously, but due to water heater damage it's been removed.

Last time I did floors, I did SO MUCH research. This time, I need to make decisions quickly.

I don't think I have time to do tile (and not sure of the cost, either) but so far I've looked at waterproof LVP/LVT or marmoleum again.

If I do LVP/LVT are there any brands/types that are particularly solid? Last time I looked into these there were fewer options. (Located in WA, US)

PS: if you don't have a leak detector by your hot water heater, I recommend getting one.

Small umbrella/sunbrella: is this doable or will people hate me? (Lawn tickets, never been to the Gorge)

I overheat easily in direct sun. I often use a sunbrella/parasol but I don't want to piss off everyone behind me at a concert.

I've never been to the Gorge so I don't know how packed the lawn gets or how sloped the land is toward the stage. Is a small umbrella likely to cause problems?

I'm going to be there for the Brandi Carlile concert in late May. I did notice the website says umbrellas have to be <36" and no sharp points.
