Notched kitchen knife

I picked up my new knife one day and noticed it was notched as shown.

It has been in the dishwasher accidentally once or twice and has also been left for long periods in a soaking sink.

How did this happen and is there a price effective fix, or should I just buy a new knife for ~$35?

Port Phillip City Council voting to adopt Safe Streets Policy tomorrow

Port Phillip City Council will meet tomorrow 4 August 2026 at St Kilda Town Hall to vote on whether to adopt a Roadmap to Zero strategy which aims to eliminate traffic deaths by 2050.

https://portphillip.infocouncil.biz/Open/2026/08/ORD_05082026_AGN_AT_WEB.htm

I am going to turn up to this meeting to support the changes.

Nonsensically, there is a concerted campaign being run against this strategy by a local residents' group, Residents of Port Phillip.

They broadly oppose any and all changes which would implement:

- 30km/h speed limits

- Traffic calming street design

- Separated bike infrastructure

There are ~600 signatures on their petition against the Council's strategy before it has even been adopted.

In my opinion, if these sorts of highly organised reactionary residents' groups are the only ones making themselves heard, we'll never get safe, connected cycling infrastructure, not to mention traffic calming measures and lower speed limits which would make the inner city a much more pleasant place.

I would urge anyone living or working in Port Phillip to register before midday tomorrow and make a 2-minute submission at tomorrow's St Kilda Town Hall meeting.

This is the registration link:

How accurate is this video?

https://youtu.be/TQd2k1pEXp4?si=XZcQKfY3DNeKzFmH

It makes many quite sweeping claims about the idyllic life led by hunter gatherers and the contrast with the life led by agriculturalists and modern industrial workers.

My extremely limited understanding is that while leisure time is abundant, hunter gatherers tend to be more likely to die by violence and spend a lot of time travelling between locations.

I'm interested in the modern scholarly consensus on this and other claims made.

ELO or similar system to track performances across games

Hi all,

I am a semi-regular TI4 player and I have played plenty of games with anywhere from 3 to 8 players.

One of the things I dislike about larger games is that there is little incentive to play strictly winning moves once a player is out of the running for first place. Players tend to become kingmakers, unintentionally or otherwise, in the final couple rounds if they're a long way behind the pack.

For this reason, I would like to create a scoring or ranking system which tracks each player's relative position between games. I would like to introduce an incentive to maximise one's final points total, regardless of whether that player wins the game or not.

If my playing group was consistent, it would be easy enough to create a tournament-style points system where higher end rankings count for more tournament points. However, we don't have a consistent group due to player availability and experimentation with the game format.

I thought about using an ELO system, but I understand that the ELO formula strictly works best with 1v1 games. I'm looking into having something like the skill-based matchmaking employed in online multiplayer games.

Is there any system which is generally recommended for tracking finishing positions across TI4 games?
