Go To Kakadu, Take Your Akubra

Most fitting place I've found for my Brumby, sadly while I saw lots of brumbies I never managed to get a picture with one!

Replacement car key fobs

I can't find much searching, but does anyone have any recommendations on where to get a new car key?

I seem to have lost one of mine, and so I want to get a replacement. Dealerships are ripoffs, some places have people that do them. Don't need the physical key cut, just a new fob programmed for the car (2019 VW Jetta). Any leads?

46/m Canadian Visiting Darwin For The Second Time

Hello!

I visited Darwin last August primarily to catch the Ghan. My schedule on that trip was very compressed so I only had one day to explore. That being unsatisfactory, I am headed back to the NT in a couple of weeks. The main thing I'm doing is a camping trip in Kakadu and Koolpin that I've booked, and I made sure I'm there for the Mindil Beach Market because I missed it last time.

I did the hop-on/hop-off tour and the military history tour (which included the museum) last time which was a pretty good way to see a lot in a day and learn a lot of history too. This time I've got a couple of days before Kakadu, but other than consuming unholy amounts of laksa, I've not planned much yet.

I won't have a hire car (unless there's something really good I need one for) and I'm staying in Parap if that gives any more insights. Love history, culture, art, would be neat to engage with more Aboriginal/Tiwi Island culture as I know so little about it, but really just about anything is worth considering I think.

So, Darwin, if I may ask, when someone's coming to visit you from away, what do you show them to help them understand life in Darwin?

46/m Canadian Visiting For A Second Time - Where Do You Take Your Friends When They Visit?

Hello!

I'm on my way to Adelaide in a couple of weeks for a short visit on my way north and I've had some great success travelling by checking out local subreddits.

I'm starting to search posts for stuff but here's what I always ask:

If someone's coming to visit Adelaide for the first time, what do you show them?

The more obvious tourist stuff I think I covered a bunch of last time, maybe. Here's what I did:

  • Visited the Market, which I plan to do again and take a proper tour rather than wandering around wondering why there's multiple places to get paella
  • Checked out the State Art Gallery and Library
  • Wandered the malls, walked into Adelaide Hatters and ended up an Akubra owner even though I had no plans to buy - those ladies are really, really good at what they do, and I'm super happy with what they sold me!
  • Did a wine tour to the Adelaide Hills and Barossa Valley
  • Walked up around North Adelaide but without a plan just enjoying the architecture

I didn't plan on where to eat and missed out on some great restaurants.

I've got about 2.5 days to play with, not a lot of time, but a bit for sure.

I love good food, good wine, just exploring without a plan, meeting new people, whatever comes my way generally... So Adelaide, I know your city was never a penal colony and that you have a whole lot of churches,... what else?

Thanks for your suggestions, r/winnipeg!

I posted this about coming to visit your city a couple of weeks ago, and I got heaps of suggestions and recommendations. I didn't end up going out of the city, but I walked 60km around all my exploring, didn't find the bugs anywhere near as bad as fearmongering suggests (though definitely a thing!), and overall I had a great time. I'm going to dream about the Tango cocktail from Corrientes Pizza for a while I think. The history and architecture were great to learn about, a lot beyond Grade 7 history which was most of what I knew. And I didn't realize you still have a planetarium, and I definitely went.

Thanks for having me, re-reading the suggestions I didn't get to makes me think I should consider going back some time because I only had so much time. It was great to get local suggestions for sure, thanks for all of it!

Place to get tired rebalanced?

I swapped my tires last week, but after driving a bit I've noticed a rumble to them that isn't great. Hoping it's just a balance issue, anyone got a recommendation on a good place to take it to get checked out? I don't want to spend a fortune if I don't have to, but I don't think a Mr Lube tire guy is the answer either.

The Canadian From Toronto - Dumb Question

I'm taking Train 1 this Sunday to Winnipeg (last minute deal, random place to see, and I like trains).

I can't seem to find what the first meal service is, would it be lunch? With the departure time breakfast seems unlikely, but I'm not sure.

Took the train the whole way from Vancouver a few years ago, looking forward to passing a couple of days on it and checking out Winnipeg, since last time we got there in the middle of the night!
