Another story: Local Cleaning Business

My post on Nextdoor got a lot of love so thought I would share here as well:

We clean for an older couple in north Naples, and every time our team shows up, they’re already waiting at the kitchen counter.

Not in a “watching over everything” kind of way — more like they’re just happy to have someone to talk to for a bit.

They’ll ask how the week’s been, what jobs we’ve been on, fun things we did on the weekend, etc.

About halfway through, without fail, they’ll offer coffee or something to eat like we’re guests instead of there to work.

At some point we’ll say, “Alright, we’ll let you relax,” and they always respond with something like, “No rush, we enjoy the company.”

Elderly folks might be the best people on earth

Water filtration/ RO home installation business

I’ve been thinking about launching a service business focused specifically on whole-home reverse osmosis + water filtration systems.

The basic idea is to build a company that installs high-ticket residential water systems (not just under-sink filters), and then builds recurring revenue through annual filter replacements, system maintenance, and optional water testing.

The more I’ve researched it, the more it seems like a fairly fragmented industry. There are definitely companies already doing it, but most seem like small local plumbing/water treatment businesses or older “Culligan-style” models. Nothing that feels like a modern, sales-driven, scalable operation.

The big opportunity I see is younger generations are being more health-conscious and reverse osmosis or water filtration in the next 10 years could be the new normal.

Along with this the biggest separator between what I’m thinking of building and other providers is that along with general marketing, such as Google Facebook, etc we would run a boots on the ground door-to-door sales team. Poaching door-to-door salesman from solar and pest control and sharing that they’d be able to make 3 to 4 times their commissions selling this high ticket product.

Concept in a nutshell:
Install whole-home water filtration / RO systems ($4K–$10K+ installs)
Offer financing to make it accessible monthly
Build recurring revenue through:
Filter replacements (1–2x/year)
Maintenance plans
Water testing add-ons
Focus heavily on residential homeowners (hard water + high humidity + health awareness)

The part I’m most interested in feedback on:
I’m considering building the sales side similar to solar or pest control companies:
100% commission door-to-door reps
High payout per deal ($2,000–$4,000range depending on system)
Targeting experienced reps from solar / pest / roofing industries
The idea is to create a strong sales engine early rather than relying only on Google ads or referrals.

Why I think it could work:
High-ticket product with financing available
Recurring service revenue (filters + maintenance)
Industry feels outdated compared to solar or HVAC sales models
Strong LTV if customers stay on service plans
Young generation is moving toward healthier solutions and are more health oriented

Story from our cleaning business

Thought I would share this funny story on here😂

We clean for an elderly couple in fort myers where every time our teams shows up, the dog follows them from room to room the entire time.

Not barking, not guarding anything just supervising. Every time we finish a room, he walks in, does a quick lap, sniffs around like he’s checking our work, and then moves on to the next one😂

And by the end of the clean, he finally settles down. I guess we passed his inspection!
