Air quality monitor /

We had some wood floors installed in our home and the contractor sanded a product called Duraseal filler that contains 3% crystalline silica as well as talc, and didn’t seal the rooms off. Can anyone recommend me an air quality monitor? Would it even be possible to see if there is silica dust in our air now? Would an air purifier be able to capture all the dust that is circulating in our air if I move it room to room? I have a baby so I’m trying to figure out the best things to do to make sure our air quality is safe and I’m feeling very anxious about it. He didn’t seal off our hvac vents either. We haven’t run the hvac at all and had them cleaned but is this also a concern re recirculating the fine silica particulates?

Is 3% crystalline silica dust in a product a concern if it was sanded in home? ( more info below attached photo)

We have a little one and our contractor sanded duraseal filler inside the home without dust mitigation aside from a hepa filter on his sander. Noticed some fine dust on the walls when I rubbed them with a finger after he finished. We have a baby and I’m concerned about her exposure or long term exposure to silica dust.

Please let me know if you think it’s a concern. We hepa vaccumed the rooms and wet mopped/ wet dusted them but to what extend do I need to clean the rest do my house if doors were open during construction?

Crystalline silica in air?

We had hardwood floors put in and the contractor sanded duraseal filler which contains 3% crystalline silica without proper dust mitigation other than a hepa vac on his sander. We have a baby and want
to be sure it’s safe for her- what air quality test would you recommend? Are any of those monitors reliable? Do any specifically tell you if there is silica? Is this something I should be concerned about? Would love any and all input.

Aliphatic hydrocarbon dust all up in my house- help!

Dear chemists of Reddit.

I am following up a previous post with a little more specific information. I had construction done in my home and a product called duraseal wood filler was used and sanded with improper dust mitigation practices by the contractor. I’ve included a photo of the ingredients. Should I be concerned about aliphatic hydrocarbon and mineral spirits going airborne and settling around my house? What about the talc or calcium carbonate? I have a crawling one year old, which is why I’m doing my due diligence on this.

Is new red oak hardwood floor supposed to look like this?

Just had some red oak floor installed with a woca oil finish. It was crazy expensive. Are the flaws in filling pics normal/ to be expected? I know nothing about flooring and just want to make sure it’s looking how it should. Not sure what the dark horizontal lines are, the burn mark looking things, and there’s a scratch also.

How to best clean up construction dust

We had floors put in and they were cut and sanded inside our home with no visqueen put up and he sanded duraseal which contains talc and other hazardous things. What’s the best way I clean up my home after this? We have a crawling baby! I just had hvac ducts cleaned and then would love tips on the best way to get rid of the dust. My husband wants to use the air compressor on nooks and crannies, then vacuum them wet dust/mop. What are yalls thoughts?

Is enviroCON safe?

We’re having our hvac ducts cleaned tomorrow and my husband wants them to fog them with a product they pitched to him called enviroCON. It’s essentially water and sodium chloride or chlorite. Is this safe? We have a one year old baby. My knee jerk reaction is no but we also suspect a vent somewhere may be broken and we do live in the woods with our fair share of rodents. Help! What do I do?

Did my floor guy mess up? Worried new mom needs help!

Edit: not looking for advice on how to handle the contractor- just looking for advice on if my house is safe for us to re enter.

We had hardwood floors put in and I was very clear with our contractor about needing the project to be contained to the two rooms he was working on because we have a crawling baby in our home. I asked him to put up visqueen and requested a list of all the products he’d be using.

He did not put up visqueen, despite my asking him to do so multiple times. He also used some kind of glue and dureseal filler that he never disclosed to me. He was sanding the floors and cutting wood with no visqueen up. He argued that his tools have a hepa air filter vacuum system.

I have a lot of anxiety being a new mom- is my house safe for us to be inside? The duraseal contains talc and can be toxic when inhaled. I am feeling overwhelmed that I have to now clean every surface and my house is unsafe. What is normal safe practice in this situation? Is our air safe? I do use airports. We also used woca oil to stain and it’s been three days and still very stinky.

Should I open my windows or will that just move dust around more before I’ve had a chance to clean?

Any advice or insight please would be so so appreciated.

How to get the cleanest water?

Living in a house built in 1988. We have great well water that is filtered through granite but it goes through pvc pipes and then copper pipes once it goes through the water heater. I have no idea if teflon tape has been used in the plumbing.

Looking for advice on how to get the healthiest water situation here. Seems like all the filters have plastic, don’t want to strip away all the good minerals in my water, and having a hard time finding a lead free, plastic free faucet.

If you have any advice on this please share!!!
