From $30 Craigslist find to a good looking urban cruiser

I found this Marin Muirwoods on Craigslist for $40.

Winds up, it’s a 2014 SE with 26-inch wheels. It’s an ideal urban commuter for those casual evening group rides.

Sadly, this was the only photo posted, but I decided to take a chance and check it out. It was covered in scratches, had two very worn-out flat tires, and the brakes didn’t work. It also felt a bit loose.

After spending a little time and about $120, this is what we ended up with in the last few photos. I never thought I’d buy thickslicks, but I think they complement the overall look of the frame.

Now I need to find some racks or something else to bolt onto it

Recent Pickup: 1984 Velo Schauff Grand Prix Rudi Altig

I recently acquired a 1984 Velo Schauff Grand Prix Rudi Altig edition 58cm bicycle, complete with a full Shimano Golden Arrow group set, from an owner who had it since its inception. It was stored in the garage for a few years and eventually moved to the attic in the mid-1980s. I believe the original pads are still attached. The overall condition of the bicycle is excellent, and I’m eagerly looking forward to restoring it to roadworthy condition.

I had seen these a few weeks ago and was hesitant to pay $150. However, when I checked in two weeks ago, I noticed that the price had dropped to $75. I hesitated still, but I decided to take advantage of the price today and bought them for $41.

I recently embarked on a trip to a place I had heard about the last week. It was an incredible experience, with a diverse collection of bicycles in various states of condition. I found some Specialized, Treks, a few Bianchi’s, Haros… I picked up Marushi RX-4 in excellent condition as well as this attractive Univega Via Carisma. I may need to return a they also have stacks of components, wheels, etc.

The RX4 is huge! Will be returning soon…

I picked up this incredible Hunter green 4130 with a good bit of patina yesterday evening. It already has a few minor upgrades, or perhaps I should say quite a few. In terms of size, the geometry is quite similar to my Miyata 912.

I haven’t had a chance to ride it yet, but I’m certain it’s going to be a fun ride.

I’ve been collecting bikes over the past few weeks. I’ve found some great bikes from the 1980s to the 2000s, and this one, which I picked up yesterday, stands out as particularly interesting.

This is a 2013 Trek Earl. It has a built-in channel for your bike lock and a built-in beer bottle opener/soda opener!

I gave it a little Kintsugi-inspired touch-up to highlight its history and its use as an Austin brewery cruiser.

When I picked it up, it had a few stickers from different breweries. Maybe it’ll become a Houston brewery cruiser.🍻

I’m thinking I might wanna grab some new handlebars, and do a little bit more cosmetic touchup which I’m still figuring out.
