LPT If you want to sound more confident say everything like you’re mentally setting up a joke

Anxiety feeds off of importance. So if you *secretly tell yourself that what you’re saying is the buildup to a joke then it’s easier to get it out with more confidence. Because you’re relieving your psyche of your words significance.

And one of the key components of confidence if not seeking to get any particular reaction from anyone.

Example:

I need five beers for table 6, >!I’m celebrating 5 years sober by myself!!<

You can’t use my bike, >!work won’t let me be late due to “being a conflict avoidant pussy”….again.!<

I like your outfit! >!Who was buried in it?!<

Just say the build up without the punchline and it flips a switch in your brain. You become an impartial representative of your thoughts instead of the owner.

Basically just commit to the joke without the punchline.

I’m not kidding I’ve seriously struggled with Coming off as genuine and confident (I am genuine but my tone comes off forced and awkward) and this has helped me tremendously.

With all the love in my heart: this career field is not a sustainable lifestyle 99% of the time.

I absolutely ADORED being a biologist. Truly a childhood dream coming true. And the fact it had been such a dream made it so much harder to accept what the field is really like.

And I think there needs to be an honest and fair warning to anyone getting into it.

Yes this sub has plenty of hopeful anecdotes and personal experiences of people who made it earlier, further and better than to be usually expected in this field. Which is fantastic!

But 99% of the time with this lifestyle, on an overwhelming average, it’s years of low paying seasonal grunt work. Relationships are next to impossible, having pets is incredibly difficult, you more than likely don’t have your own place (which I know is the case for plenty of people not in this field) and saving money is pretty much a moot point because of how little sticks around.

This field is for the young, wild and broke. This field is incredible.

But my advice is 3 points:

1.) mindset: if you want to do this, make sure it’s the only thing you want.

2.) don’t be too proud to not have a plan B. It breaks my heart seeing people 8 years into their career and wanting a change but none of their skills transfer well to
Many other jobs.

3.) you don’t need to make a career out of something you can enjoy just as much doing it as a hobby, or a volunteer.

I’m not saying this with the intent to discourage your dreams. I think it’s a hard thing to hear, but everyone deserves to hear it once on this path.

Should I sell my stuff and quit working for 6 months to focus on what I want to do with my life?

Been bartending in a new town I moved to. Stopped doing seasonal work and moving around. Haven’t made much of any friends yet.

Love the town but I’m lonely and broke. I do have something I could sell (not a vehicle) for 15,000 dollars. This would float me through 6 months of expenses.

[Hated trope] Boomer rage fantasies

Most common example I could think of was the old “I just want a BLACK COFFEE” shtick where the protagonist encounters a coffee shop that must obviously be completely run by snobs and morons while they themselves are a classic American hero who doesn’t know what a latte is.

(Louder milk) the main character Sam insults an (admittedly annoying) barista over her exaggerated valley girl accent.

(Bad thoughts) tom segura fantasizing about how coffee shops are actively trying to do their jobs incorrectly and he must be the benevolent voice of reason (rage)

(Roel models) apparently every coffee shop in the world would be dumbfounded over the concept of ordering a simple black coffee.

DAE think the formality of calling a judge “your honor” is the silliest sounding professional title.

Anytime I hear “your honor” I just picture one of those English judges with the big white curly wig on and not a respected, high ranking government official lmao.

Like imagine there’s a judge named bob green.

What sentence sounds like it belongs in a serious, modern context, and what sounds like it’s from a cartoonish and outdated historical anecdote.

Yes judge Green I would like to plead not guilty.

Yes your honor I would like to plead not guilty.

Maybe I’m just overthinking it lmao

Saying “I don’t care/I’m down for whatever” when planning group activities means you get ZERO input on anything group related once we’re there.

I don’t care if you try to say “well I put in my equal share of money to be here and now I wanna divert our plans and do xyz…pleasssseeeeee”

Dude fuck you. Im not asking for your opinion im asking for your help with making decisions for everyone’s sake to avoid wasting time trying to plan a trip while we are there.

This is an opinion but also a vent lmao. Fuck go-with-the-flow attitudes when it’s critical planning time.

I’m not talking about every second of the trip had to be on some tight itinerary. I mean if we wanna for sure hit 3 ish things while we are there, and you suddenly see something you’d rather we do, then you forfeit that Input. Especially if it means bailing on what everyone else decided on.

“Oh but I actually don’t care tho! I’m so down for whatever”. Ok do you think you could be down with helping in the burden of organization even if you’re indifferent to the outcome.

What would be a good asking price for my truck/camper combo I want to sell?

2024 tundra sr5 with premium package, 4wd, leather seats, and a 6ft bed. 29,950 miles.

Attached to the bed is an OVRLND brand pop-up camper made in 2024. Full electrical set up with solar and a 2,000w deep cycle lithium battery.

Fully functional sink, overhead lights, wood floors. With the added bonus that you can rip out the interior completely and make it however you want.

Camper is from a great American made brand.

Previous owners definitely upgraded the suspension system and tires.

The whole rig is premium and barely used. I just don’t need this much vehicle anymore as fun as it was.

What would be a good asking price? There’s a great market for overloading set ups where I am.

The expectation for a 20% tip should get capped at $100.

If I go to a restaurant with the intention of spending $100 on dinner for myself and someone else then sure I’ll throw in the extra $20 for service. But if I’m out at a dinner where the bill starts racking up significantly more than that? Any “automatic” tip past $20 is earned.

If I save up to spend $250 on a nice dinner out for some friends or family i would only tip the $45 or more if the service was absolutely excellent. $20 is a good tip. Just because a place charges more for food or drinks does not mean a completely optional tip automatically inflates with it. Pricing has nothing to do with the quality of your service which is precisely what tips are for. An additional gratuity for a server doing a good job.

Call me a Karen all you want but I spent years in the service industry doing every single job in a restaurant.

If anything, the cooks deserve at least half of the tips. Why should servers get the entire thing just because they Uber’d the food 30ft across the restaurant.

“Well we have to deal with rude customers” ok well then you’re probably not expecting a good tip from them anyway. The cooks have to deal with other cooks
