kirk’s age?

“When I was in in seventh grade, Luke knocked the books out of my hands.”
“Because of his dark day?”
“No, everyone knocked my books out of my hands. I was kind of a target. I used to wear a cape to school.”

This is the episode in which Lorelai finds out about Luke’s dark day. This is in S5 EP10. She’s having this conversation with Kirk when he comes to the inn to show her a catalogue of some tub decals or something.

What I found interesting is that, I assumed Luke and Lorelai are somewhat the same age. Maybe this is an incorrect assumption and someone can correct me here. I’m assuming that since Rory is about 20 in this season, Lorelai is 36? And Luke is around the same age.

In my first and now, second watch, I always interpreted Kirk as being a late 20’s guy, like probably 28/29 years old? Do we know what his actual age is in the show, is it mentioned anywhere and if yes please tell me where!! I’m keen to know. But based on this ^ convo, it seems like Kirk was at school the same time as Luke. Of course he could’ve been 2-4 years younger than Luke but that’s still like 32 years old or so. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

lorelai and rory’s fight before being ‘shipped off’ to europe

bruh. rory’s all “i’m grown up now, i can make my own decisions” trying to justify sleeping with dean even though he’s married. sleeps with him the next day again, even though she has MUTIPLE questions about his marriage and then gets mad at lorelai for “shipping her away to europe”?

girl, you just said you’re a grown up. you can definitely say ‘no, i’ve got a summer job, no i’m getting a summer job soon, i have to study for next semester, im going to help mom out at the new inn.’ i don’t understand why rory acts as if she’s being forced to go on an all expenses paid, luxurious trip across europe with her grandmother. rory acts like such a brat in these few episodes, it really irks me.

why is rory mad at lorelai for speaking the truth and the facts when lorelai learns that they slept together, and not at dean who is just fucking around with rory while acting like he’s in a faithful relationship with lindsey. how can she be THAT naive and delusional? the smart, thoughtful, overthinking rory.. doing that?

rory is really the most irritating character of this series and she really pisses me off sometimes. “he’s my dean” like ???? maam he’s married. what the fuck are you doing? and dean is such a fucked up character for playing along with rory and lindsey both until lindsey finds out about them.

Dean and Lindsey’s fight at the Dragonfly

lindsey shows up at the drangonfly because they had plans to meet up with their friends, but dean says he’s taking on extra shifts to provide for the new townhouse and the new car that lindsey wants. lindsey’s reply is to call dean selfish and say that he’s never there - “i wait for your all day at home. i’m bored.” how is no one talking about this? why doesn’t he ever ask lindsey to get a job? if not a full time one, maybe a part time one? why is he the sole breadwinner in this situation when clearly he’s only working extra and going above and beyond for all of her wants!!

is this just poor writing on ASP’s part to create tension for what happens next season with dean and rory? or was this .. intentional?

lorelai and sookie’s fight about the stove delivery

so in s4ep14 lorelai and sookie get into this huge fight about sookie not being at the inn to sign off on the delivery of a french stove or something. i really dislike all of sookie’s excuses in this fight. she said she would be there personally to sign off on this and lorelai gets her hair appointment for then specifically because sookie said she’d be there.

at first sookie shifts blame to tom the contractor, which is not cool because sookie says she wants to inspect everything herself. then sookie shifts blame onto michel, saying michel always wants to feel included but doesn’t show up when he’s needed. then sookie says that it was just one time and it’s okay. lorelai gets even more mad because sookie hasn’t been at the inn a lot/for any important meetings etc. lorelai is so valid for being mad at her. additionally, when they’re already broke and haven’t got any money left, adding the extra shipping over again adds to the cost. atp, it’s not about their friendship it’s about their business and lorelai having to go 120% all in to pick up sookie’s slack. after that sookie blames the situation on her having a baby. i understand that being a new mom and having a baby to take care of is time consuming, but jackson could help out too, sookie could get a babysitter, etc. there are solutions to these problems. there are so many good kids like lane who could do with the extra cash from babysitting.

idk, it really irks me off that sookie kept shirking off the responsibility of having an inn together. she further says, “i’m not good at this managing and stuff. my part comes later when the inn starts up.” so she wants to own the inn, do none of the work, be a chef when the inn opens - then why even want to own the inn? if she’s not particularly interested in running it alongside her best friend, why agree to start up their own inn together if she didn’t want to do any management stuff. she could just be the all ruling chef at the inn with no other responsibilities. as far as i know, i doubt that’s their arrangement.

maybe my opinion is very strong or i am too empathetic with how upset lorelai is, but these are my thoughts. what do you guys think?

lorelai’s reaction to luke moving in with nicole

lorelai and luke’s fight about luke moving in with nicole was so .. idk.

on the one hand i understand lorelai being upset that her friend luke hasn’t told her that he has moved away (even though he’s still going to be at the diner every single day).

but lorelai’s reaction was soooo out of line? she totally blows up in rage at that moment. that felt so unjustified to luke and completely self absorbed of lorelai. luke is his own person and he doesn’t need anybody’s permission or even thoughts to make life decisions about HIS life.

luke later says that lorelai is judging his relationship and judging nicole and what not, and that seems pretty valid to me. if luke is just “a friend” then this shouldn’t really be bothering lorelai so much so that she has three screaming matches with luke. i know this is early set up for what’s coming in the future for them but even so, she’s in a relationship with jason at this point. isn’t it unfair to be having secret feelings for luke (knowingly or unknowingly)? isn’t this behaviour a telltale sign to yourself that something is up? how does lorelai not figure it out/keep going with jason.
