Tips For Seeing Round 4/5 In A Tournament

Long story short; me and my friends thought it would be a good time to enter the capstone 10th teams tournament at ACO (and for what it was worth we had a great time)

My experience as the GSC member of our team however was ... exhausting. I legally saw R4 once across 6 games over 3 days.

10x Neophyte Hybrids (65pts)

5x Aberrants (135pts)

10x Hybrid Metamorphs (140pts) flamers

10x Purestrain Genestealers (140pts)

5x Purestrain Genestealers (75pts)

Achilles Ridgerunner (95pts) mortar/spotter

Goliath Rockgrinder (120pts) hml

Overall strategy was simple. Screen out NML with infiltrate, genestealer jail, outscore opp on primaries for R2, hopefully R3, force them to play catchup, secure the lead

Which ... worked, mostly (except against Sascha Edelkraut who walked me with pactbound defilers and huron - absolutely insane player, skill gap was wide enough to bury mt everest)

But the other 5 games of my weekend basically had us both going to the buzzer and was functionally a draw each game (using WTC scoring)

I even got a nickname out of it - Johnny Draws 🤠🤠🤠

However this whole experience just, to be honest, fucking sucked. It sucked to play this strategy, i could tell it sucked to play against.

Is my issue largely a skill issue - or is this just the faction playstyle, or was my list just un-optimized?

If yes, what are your broad spectrum opinions on this debate? If no, why do you think your opinion has the same substance as someone who dedicated their life to the academic study of art?

Before the flaming starts - I don't have an art degree but I am an academic and understand (or believe) that opinions formed from a place of education have more substance - though are not necessarily worth more. Just have more to substantiate them than vibes and anecdotes.
