An honest thank you to the Firaxis dev team

Hey all,

After the recent Brush and Blade release, I saw an enormous amount of hate towards the Civ VII developers here in the community and in others, to the point where I found it immensely disproportionate and out of context.

Now, I will admit that the DLC is overpriced and although I bought it and enjoy the leaders and wonders (Heian is a blast and I build Hoo-Do Hall almost every game for 10+ production), I don't think everyone necessarily should buy it because again, 30 bucks is a lot of money.

However I think Firaxis really deserves some slack; I think the community and developer team have gone through MASSIVE efforts to make sure this game becomes more playable. From day 1, they clearly understood from the community feedback that the game wasn't up to snuff and was released too early, and I don't think they rested even a day before they got to work brainstorming on how to improve the game. I myself played from the pre-release and although I played it for about 200-250 hours I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as Civ 6, and only very recently (little bit pre-ToT) have I returned since those first few months. However through this sub and other means I have closely tried to follow updates on the game as I really wanted it to avenge itself and succeed. And it is really not to be understated how many enormous free updates and content updates they have launched and how much time and money it would have cost them to release them that way.

The biggest, and most recent one (Test of Time) being the most spectacular overhaul of the game. And I genuinely think this update "fixed" the game where it's really enjoyable and not at all repetitive, there's a lot of hidden content in it. They listened to community feedback in this update and let them playtest it. They released smaller updates and gave us a very clear pathing and roadmap towards further updates. I really think they put in a lot of love and effort into making this game enjoyable to a broader public, and I think one 30 dollar DLC doesn't suddenly make Firaxis the bad guys here, on the contrary. Especially because I imagine that funds are pretty low and they probably need every bit of money they can get to improve the game and it's UI even more.

So herewith a huge thank you to u/sar_firaxis and the rest of the community team, and the amazing dev team because despite what some may say your love for the game is REALLY not lost on us!

The Fantasticar in Reanimator?

Hey all!

The Fantasticar has been quite the menace over the past few days as legacy players have found multiple shells (Doomsday, Phoenix, TES, Beseech, etc.) to house it in. I had been ever so slightly sceptical before it released but I'm definitely in the camp where I think it's really strong and possibly too strong now. However, I was looking at some denominating factors in these lists and I noticed that there were indeed quite a few cards in common. Namely I saw the largest portion of these lists play some combination of: [[Lotus petal]], [[Dark ritual]], [[Mishra's bauble]], [[Brainstorm]], [[Ponder]] and sometimes LED as main enablers, usually with 4 [[daze]] and 4 [[force of will]] to back it up with, offering a strong back-up plan to their plan A's.

However, a shell I haven't seen it in yet is... Reanimator. And the reason I landed on this bit was because I was considering the following: what other lists play a lot of these cards? And quite frankly some of those cards feature in old Dimir Reanimator lists and some of them in the turbo Reanimator shells. Which lead me to wonder if the Fantasticar would really be that hard to slot in successfully into such a shell. Now I know Reanimator lists are pretty tight, but I bet you that a better deckbuilder than me (I kept having too many cards in my mainboard because I want to fit in all the draw + some flow states) could make a half-decent list for this idea, where you have a strong plan A but also an insane plan B that is not reliant on the graveyard at all.

Any thoughts on this idea or as to why it would/wouldn't work? Any input and discussion much appreciated!

Worst matchups for Green decks?

Hey all!

Recently I got into my local game store's league top 8, and it's looking like my first opponent is most likely gonna be on Cradle Control / Lands, and if I win my second opponent will most likely play green post. To kind of play into that, I was looking to do a bit of testing with a deck to play it in the league. I was wondering what, in your opinions, the green land-based decks' worst matchups are. Now I understand that those decks are vastly different of course but I was wondering if there's like a common denominator in terms of bad matchup here as there's some similarities too. I don't really have a single deck I stick with anyways (I fiddle around a bit, right now I'm on lessons Nic Fit and on 4c control with Quintorius and Life from the Loam ever since the card came out 2 months ago). I was maybe considering Sneak and Show because it looks to be in a good spot and I saw the post player having difficulty with the deck last FNM, but I'm open to your suggestions!

Edit: bonus points for sideboard silver bullets!

Ideal terrarium for Isopods?

Hey all!

I'm completely new to the world of isopods but very invested already, and I'm looking to get my first 2-3 bins to start with. I've already nailed down a few fun species and their needs, however I'm kind of stuck on the terraria I want to keep them in. I initially wanted to buy some 30cm by 20cm ones, however the problem I've seen with that one is that it has no roof. Now I know isopods usually don't climb glass but if it's dirty or has water residue on it, it's possible they escape and I don't really want to risk that. Ideally I want a terrarium of that size (fits best in furniture) but I haven't found any others with roofs and no mesh nets have I found of the right size either, but maybe it's DIYable? There's also some 30x30 terraria with roofs that I've found but they're a little on the expensive side (about 60 dollars converted). I don't really want to just put them in plastic bins as I mean to "display" them so clear glass is necessary. Does anyone have advice as to what to try to get for my first isopod terraria / a way to roof the cheap 30x20 terrarium? Thanks so much in advance, I'm sure you'll hear from me more often with isopod-related questions (and pictures of the cuties once they arrive)!

To GSZ or not to GSZ? (nic fit)

Hello all!

I've recently been working a bit on a Nic Fit list with [[Eyetwitch]] as one of the main enablers, and I have some lists loosely based on the work of ThrabenU. Something I've noticed is that he notably omits [[Green Sun's Zenith]] completely, whereas many other lists do add it and it is of course historically an iconic card for the archetype. So, I made two versions that both seem somewhat optimized, one with and one without, and I wanted to ask the community if you think GSZ is a correct add here and which list looks best. And small bonus question: how viable do you think these lists or nic fit in general still are, especially given the [[Flow state]] meta shift towards tempo? I'm looking to probably take one of these lists to a qualifier but I'm not sure as I don't want to go 0-6. I'd love to hear feedback!

Boros 8Screech featuring Hardened Academic

Hey all! I recently made this deck that I wanted to share:

https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/7772971

It's basically Boros Ocelot, but cutting some fat to make room for [[Hardened Academic]], [[battle screech]] and [[group project]]. I've not been able to test it much but I've felt that there are many great interactions between these cards, and especially the synergy with [[Ocelot pride]] can lead to some explosive turn 3's. I'm aware that this probably isn't as good as just running stock Boros, but it seems acceptable for FNM so I wanted to hear your opinions on it. For example: I have long debated [[Cori-steel cutter]] in the deck but I really don't know what to cut as the list seems a little tight. But it seems pretty good as it makes tokens for ocelot to copy, double-spelling and triggering prowess is much easier in this version than it is in the stock Ocelot lists, and the tokens are white so you can tap them to Battle screech. Another consideration is the new [[practiced offense]] card, but I'm worried it might be a bit too win-more. I'd love to hear your opinions and suggestions on the general deck too though!

I'm looking to make Amalia Combo in Legacy. Possible?

Hey fellow legacy enjoyers,

I'm looking to construct Amalia Combo in Legacy. This because I adored the deck in Pioneer, and with a spice cup coming up, I am quite interested in trying it out in legacy. I was initially thinking about maybe a sort of birthing ritual strategy, but other things might be possible too so I thought to post for tips here in the Reddit, see if anyone has card or deck type suggestions for me. Thanks in advance!

Golgari moonshadow resources?

Hey all,

There's a qualifier coming up near me and I was thinking of attending with golgari moonshadow, but I don't have a lot of experience with the deck and would love do get some resources on it. Does anyone have good videos or articles on the deck? Thanks in advance!
