Should I be a Badabook for my Halloween costume?

Should I be a Badabook for my Halloween costume?

It's one of the smallest and dumbest jokes in the show and I love it!

Nadja asks, "Are you a Babadook?"

This character, in some very Italian American accent, replies: "Nah, I'm more like a Badabook"

I think it would be so funny to try to do this as a costume for Halloween! If it matters for your opinion, I am an Italian American person from Chicago, so the accent is pretty much there... I just have to create some sort of Babadook look and talk like normal.

My husband is being an Energy Vampire, and I think we will make a great pair.

Advice for a new professor?

I'm just about to begin my first year of my TT assistant professor position! I will teach 1:1 this fall and then 2:2 in 2027-28. It's an R2 institution, and I am very much expected to do research.

On one hand, I'm nervous, and on the other, I'm super excited! I spent 7 years on my PhD and then 2 years in my postdoc, so I feel ready- or ready as I think I'll ever feel.

I feel like I could honestly use advice on ... Anything really. How did it go trying to make friends with others in the department? How have you enjoyed research or teaching?

Text-to-speech reader is a life saver

I have no idea how recent this was updated for Zotero, but my desktop app now has a text-to-speech reader. This is SOO helpful. Literally just making a post right now in case no one else knew about it.

As someone with some form of undiagnosed neurodivergence, text-to-speech readers help me read so much better than no audio. I can actually get through the material without having to read/re-read the same paragraph multiple times.

Former therapist sent me a friend request on social media; is that appropriate?

As the title says- a former therapist just sent me a friend request on social media. The photo looks like them and the name looks right. Came from what looks like a personal account that is private (so is mine). For more context, I have not seen or talked to this therapist professionally or in any way since I stopped seeing them/my treatment came to a natural ending point 2+ years ago. They were actually a great therapist too. But it feels a bit out of the blue and I actually don't know how appropriate other professionals in the field would see this?

A second thought occurred to me that maybe their profile was hacked? Not sure what to make of it

IMPORTANT UPDATE- I'm apparently bad at seeing things because the dumb social media app notification said this account is a "New Follower SUGGESTION" not an actual friend request from them ... That's a huge relief, not gonna lie, because it's pretty clear that this would not be a very appropriate thing for them to have done!

Thanks all for the thoughts!
