Looks like my Congregation is going under financially.

Id say my congregation is doing as well as can be on retention rate. Ive never heard of someone disassociating or being shunned. Id like to just mention im PIMO and never been involved in the more involved parts.

This weeks midweek about needs was a “arrangement” (or whatever word they used) related to donations. This was also done the last year but theyre trying it again. To sum the congregation held a vote to send a set amount of their funds from the part of the congregation funds. Recent renovations to the hall were mentioned and there was a constant reminder that one box is for the global effort while the other is for the halls expenses. They also stated that publishers are expected to donate about $11 monthly to maintain the hall.

The problem is the week before they read out the total donations vs expenses and there was a deficit of $200 if I remember correctly.

I feel this action most likely is trying to buy time to keep the hall afloat. The intention seemed to be that everyone donate to one box and part of those funds are sent to Headquarters to keep them happy but to have enough to keep the hall afloat. The mention that the global effort box is only for additional donations confirmed this for me.

Impressive how subtle the begging is and how its just enough to go over the heads of most people in the cong that arent looking for it.

Barrier to entry depending on status

Im not too involved with JW but theres an odd detail I haven’t seen very often in this forum or in the publications/videos by JW.

WT speaks about certain privileges in religion that are reserved based on the dedication one has for the org. However Ive seen some of the barriers to these “privileges” include legal status. I am a part of a congregation where most of the members are immigrants and if not, from immigrant backgrounds. While we do have elders, Ive been told by a few that they are unable to achieve higher positions because of their legal status such as not having an actual citizenship.

I know that this is wrong. No one should be barred from learning or serving their God based on such worldly measures and prohibition, however I am truly curious if anyone else could share their experiences with these struggles.

Interesting mention of other mythologies in the midweek meeting.

Currently the midweek meeting covers the new book theyve been pushing about remaining faithful in times of crisis. This weeks example is of Noahs flood but interestingly theres a brief description of a Hindu Legend of a man in his family building a boat to survive a great flood. A legend from a different religion/culture may have been included as evidence that this event did indeed happen according to JW, although it may work on the contrary.

The Epic of Gilgamesh came to my mind as another mention of the flood story with many shared details to that in Genesis. To sum in pursuit of eternal life to continue as a king, Gilgamesh seeks out an immortal man who had survived the flood on a giant boat. The similarities do not end there as the boat came to rest on a mountain, the cargo included his family and animals and to look for land, the immortal man had sent out several birds matching those in Genesis.

The interesting part to me is that this part of the epic was written Centuries before Genesis. Its completely possible that those familiar with the Epic at this time would come to read/listen to the early chapters of Genesis and could completely pass it off as a retelling of other flood stories. Im not well versed on ancient literature but its interesting they would allude to there being other mythologies where the Great Flood is detailed similarly to Genesis.

Work shoes for flooring tech

Hello everyone,

My current pair of workshoes gave out and am looking for a replacement. I work in flooring of many types so worn out shoe tips are the first to fail, showing holes from all abrasions and friction.

I was looking at the Keen Kenton Mid Work Shoe and was thinking it could serve as the ideal replacement but id need to hear some experiences with the shoe first.

Looking to see if the shoe is comfortable for walking in for multiple hours, fit and durability(all around but the toe durability is important). The shoes sole would also idealy have some sort of tread that prevents heavy sticking to surfaces with leftover floor glue.

I started with Durango Rebels before the soles were smooth and the toe was compromised. I liked the boot but they were not breathable or durable. They also had an issue where if I walked on a sticky surface, they would stick and pulling up would hurt my ankles. Work boots like timbs are a bit too heavy and bulky which is why im looking for a lighter work shoe.

Thanks.
