Honda shadow vt500c advice!

Hello again! I’m still trying to get this baby up and running the way I want to, today I tried to wire a starter button, I saw a guy do a bypass method where he simply wired the button to 2 of the prongs on the solenoid and it cranked and I tried the exact same thing when a button came in the mail and it did infact crank, wires and button got warm so I took them off so it could cool and I put it back on and it never cranked again with that button, so I decided imma have to do it the hard way and actually wire this mf, I got a new button from advance auto parts and I know that I need to wire a yellow and red wire to one end but I don’t know exactly what to wire to the other end, I cut a yellow and red wire off of a connector thinking that was the one that led to the solenoid but it ended up just going nowhere lol and I found out I had 2 yellow and red wires (I did end up finding the one that goes to the solenoid) if anyone can help me and let me know what color wires I need to add to the other end of my button that would be extremely appreciated!!! I’m seeing a lot is vids say the white and black and green and black but none of those videos are working on a vt500c and I just wanna know before I screw up. Attached are photos of the wire(s) my button I’m planning on using and the wire I cut that led to nothing(it actually lead to the oem but there was no start button so the wire led to nothing)

Honda shadow vt500 update! (Plus advice needed)

Hello! A few weeks ago I can here asking for help on a Honda shadow vt500 and I have figured that the solenoid was the issue and got one and now I need to wire a button and that’s coming in the mail tomorrow! I have a new dilemma I need some advice on, I have bought a gas tank that is definitely not made for the bike but I’m incredibly stubborn and willing to make this work, the tank in question is a Harley xl1200 tank specifically an efi one and I am working with a carbureted bike so I’m wondering if I could cut off the bung for the petcock off the original gas tank and weld said bung on the new gas tank?(just so I can continue to use the same petcock, the Honda shadow has a vacuum line and Harley petcocks don’t really have one lol) Theoretically it would be a lil clunky and annoying but possible, if there are any that I could do please let me know I’m so open to options! Attached will be photos of the old vt500 gas tank bung and the new gas tank bung I’ll be swapping out and the tank on the bike so you could see my vision! (Also that last screw on the efi tank is stripped like a mf so if anyone has tips to DESTROY that screw that would be really appreciated 🙂‍↕️)

New motorcycle help!

Hi everyone! I’m new to motorcycles and I have no experience but I’ve always wanted one and I want to put the work into loving and working on one I’m in the process of getting my permit and license, as of 2 days ago I picked up a 1984 Honda shadow VT500 that has been hardtailed into a bobber type build and I plan to make it my own but it needs a few things and the main hurdle I’ve been experiencing is the starter, there is a sketchy start that the guy I got it from mentioned, he starts it with a screwdriver as he places the screwdriver in between two pieces of metal to sort of act as a bridge for the current and the bike huffs and eventually starts (not so much with me just cause I get worried with all the sparks flying everywhere) (I’ve gotten it to start about 2 times on my own) he has told me I would need an ignition coil and would need to learn and watch videos on how to wire a momentary switch (he told me I should do a button) onto the bike (I am still in contact with the guy that sold me it I just don’t wanna bother him as much as I already am) I don’t know how to do this but I have been doing research I just don’t know if I am going in the right direction, I just don’t know if uI’d had to start at the starter post or anywhere else as it seems that there was no start button and the only way to start it would be the screwdriver, never wired anything before so I want to know if I’d have to cut wires and if I did I wanna do this without harming the bike or it stop running for good. (Attached is a video of the previous owner starting it and than me starting it)

Any and all the help I can get is appreciated!! :)

*Edit* I’ve been able to start her on my own now my dumbass and the right hand control pod/kill switch on off I just needed it to flick it to run and now the screwdriver trick works for me flawlessly, last night I tire to start it again just with the control pod and I flicked it a couple times to the “run” option and the bike hissed a singular time for a split second, idk if that means anything but I feel like I should also focus on either fixing that control pod or replacing it!
