Google Pixel 10a?

Hello everyone! For those of you who use Pixel 10a devices, how do you feel about it? As a first time Pixel user, I have found the super clean UI to be refreshing; never have I had an Android phone that didn't have at least some carrier bloat and personalization. MY Pixel 10a though, absolutely nothing. Just Google apps, which are the defaults of course. My carrier is T-Mobile, and not even T-Life was on it. Is this as clean as Android gets? I remember really wanting the Nexus 5 all those years ago, but I never got one. I hear these Pixel phones replaced the Nexus phones.

What do you all think about the Pixel phones? Specifically the 10a. I have a hard time believing most of the time, that it's a budget model. Not much gives it away.

Chao!

Plans and Network Experience

Hi everyone! If there is any inside people here who can/will answer this -- excellent! What I'm curious about: does T-Mobile allow/disallow access to certain frequency bands, or change something about the way your phone communicates with the network, based on the service plan you're paying for? I'm aware of QCI levels. I'm talking about being able to use certain frequencies (or not). Am I making sense? 😭

My beautiful Pixel home screen

It was made by AI. I did the organizing and edited several icons to make them darker. Isn't it gorgeous? The teal and light gray go so nicely together.

Auto brightness bug?

It seems pretty recently, my auto brightness doesn't seem to select the best level. This leaves me with a too dim, or too bright screen frequently, needing to manually select a brightness level. Could this be related to Android 17, or a recent Google Play System update? I haven't had this issue for long.

T-Mobile US in Europe

I find it strange that T-Mobile does not operate their European networks in a way that allows reciprocal US - European "roaming". Instead, we have to spend money on passes.

Did I just answer my own question, or is this strange to others as well?

Greetings from the West Coast,

Does anyone know why Ambient Display is showing up in my battery usage stats, when that's not a feature I use? Really odd.

Hello everyone,

Was just wondering how widespread 5G SA and VoNR is in San Francisco, and if it's safe to change Preferred Network Type to NR Only? I've read the Bay Area has had both of these services active for a while now.

Hello everyone,

So where I live T-Mobile has 5G SA and VoNR deployed. Out of curiosity, I used the *#*#4636#*#* Android dialer code, and switched my preferred network type to "NR SA only". I haven't had the chance to go out into the city and test it, but it works fine at home, outside, four blocks away, etc.

I noticed something curious while inside the grocery store. The UC was not present, the signal indicator showed 5G without UC. I looked at my SIM card information and it said my network type was NR SA, as did a third party app. The app said I was on band n25.

My confusion is I thought if you see 5G by itself (without UC next to it) it means you're connected to T-Mobile's low band 600 MHz extended range 5G. From all the reading I've done, everything points to that being the case, as only the UC icon indicates NR SA.

What am I missing?

Hey y'all 👋🏻

So I was curious about something and noticed the location permission for the Phone app was turned off. Me, being probably too curious, I turned location on for the Phone app. I made a call and noticed that my location was being used during the test call. What I'm curious about is what would it possibly be doing with my location for a phone call? More accurate emergency services crossed my mind, and possibly helping with cell tower handoffs, etc.

What do you all think?

UPDATE: I noticed that the location services icon appears when I place and end a phone call, but it doesn't seem to use location during the length of the call.
