Is this bread crumbing?

Hey everybody, wanted to know whether this is breadcrumbing or not. Doesn't seem like it but my friends are telling me it is.

For context: my ex is an FA, both our first relationship (lasted 13 months), he broke things off saying "you deserve better and I need to focus on myself", after he breakup we still see each other everyday (monday-friday), and he's been hanging out with friends he's talked sh!t about, telling our mutual friends that I was controlling etc, basically blaming everything on me. he also suspected he had bpd but he told me that i need to get out his life and that his mental health has never been better, dont talk to him etc. (2 weeks post breakup)

It is now 6 weeks post breakup. I handed his things back (only clothes) and so did he, around 3 weeks after breakup. I would say it ended on bad terms (his terms ngl). For anyone wondering, we are in no contact and the only contact ever would be through mutual friends. We have not spoken directly since the breakup.

Yesterday, he texted one of our mutual friends asking for a necklace back. This necklace holds almost no significant sentimental value (only because it wasn't like a BIG gift, i mean i love it dont get me wrong but it wasn't a gift that stood out a lot to me and he did state it wasn't meant to be a big gift, just a casual 'i thought you'd like this' kinda gift). His reasoning was that he 'he thought i would really like it but never saw me wear it' and he would like it back. Mind you, i have worn it and i did reply and my friend forwarded my message saying 'he's not at my house 24/7 so how would he know whether i am wearing it or not?'

It's so confusing to me because he has never once mentioned the necklace after he got me it, and he has bought me tons other jewellery and I dont have that many necks to wear that many necklaces at once. After my response and provided proof, he said he was busy and would reply later.

Fast forward, he replied 8 hours later, getting defensive saying how he's never seen the picture. I stated that i have sent it but he never saved it and he argued back saying it was because he had no storage which i completely understand, but he was swearing and getting all rude and defensive. He then said to forget about it and he would buy his own. Then i clapped back with a statement saying that there's no need to be rude and asking why he needed it anyways as it isn't a valid reason saying that I dont wear it. He then said to stop with the paragraphs and that he 'doesn't wanna hear sh!t' from me anymore.

My question is: why would he want a necklace that he bought his ex back? is it a way to indirectly open communication? he has never once mentioned about it after gifting it to me.
