Calls Go in and Out

Hey guys,

I'm actually writing about my mom's phone. It's a Samsung Galaxy A54 on the Metro PCS network.

About 3 weeks ago, she started having some issues with her phone calls. The call can start fine, but after a little while, it'll start breaking up like it's losing signal, then it'll just go completely silent. Neither person on the call can hear anything on their end. Then after 30 seconds to a minute or so, the call will come back and be just fine. Then after a little while longer, it'll start all over again.

The weird thing is that if she's doing a video call through Facebook Messenger or another app, everything works just fine. The connection and quality is stable, and the audio is clear and consistent, so I don't think it's a microphone issue.

I've tried rebooting the phone, and also cleaning and reseating the SIM. I made sure WiFi calling was disabled and I've checked her mobile signal. It's connected at 5G UC with full bars. I've also tried disconnecting and reconnecting to the mobile network. Nothing seems to help.

I'm sort of leaning towards maybe a bad SIM? But I'm not sure. My next thing to try would be removing the physical SIM and activating an eSIM, but haven't had a chance to do that yet.

Has anyone experienced anything like this? Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Replacing an Old Power Outlet

Hello,

I was replacing some old power outlets in my mom's house today. Her house was built in the 60s, and still has some of the original outlets. A couple of them I did had normal wiring (White, Black, Ground), but then I got to one in the bedroom and it confused me.

When I took the outlet out, it had one Red wire connected on the left side of the outlet, and one Black wire connected to the right side of the outlet. I believe the Red wire was on the top left, and the Black wire was connected to the bottom right. There was no White wire, and each of the screws were the same color (no Brass or Silver, just all one color).

I could tell the outlet was super old, and still had the price tag on it (which was priced at 56 cents).

I've installed many outlets before, and this is the first time I've come across a setup like this. And just some further info, this particular outlet is not controlled by a light switch. It just functions as a normal, "always on" power outlet.

I meant to take a picture before I reinstalled it can closed everything back up, but completely forgot. If pictures are necessary or would help, I could probably get them. If not, any information or advice would be extremely helpful. I'm not an electrician by any means, so when I see something that I'm not familiar with, I'll put it back the way I found it until I get the information I need to move forward.

Thanks!

Question About Problems With Glass Filter Media

Hello,

After about 5 seasons with a cartridge filter, I was tired of all the maintenance and decided to switch to a sand filter. After about 4 weeks of fighting with cloudy water, I contacted my pool guy who installed the filter, and asked if perhaps there could be a problem with the filter itself.

He offered to come out and take it apart, suck out all the sand, and inspect all the components to makes sure everything was ok. Since he was going to do this, I decided to make the switch to glass media since I had read good things about the better filtration. I ended up going with Dr. Dryden's Activate since I had read good things.

Upon taking the pump apart, he found that a couple of the laterals were tipped upwards, instead of lying flat. He rinsed everything off and made sure all the laterals were flat this time. He added water to the tank, then added the glass media. The manufacturer's recommendation was 1 bag of coarse and 3 bags of fine. So that's the order we installed them. The recommendation was also to backwash 3 times. Once we started backwashing, handfuls of media was coming through the backwash hose.

We've backwashed now probably 20 times now, and it's still pouring out. At this rate, not sure if I'm going to have any media left. Has anyone had experience with this filter media, and has anyone ever had this problem where filter media, be it glass or sand, kept pouring out while backwashing?

Since all my components are fine, I'm really not sure what could be causing this loss. We're still trying to solve the problem. Any suggestions, advice, or recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

New Sand Filter, Cloudy Water

Hey guys,

So we've had our above ground pool now for 5 seasons. So far we've had a cartridge filter, but this year we upgraded to a brand new sand filter.

In previous seasons with my cartridge filter, when I opened the pool, I added all my chemicals and balanced the water. Then I'd add some copper algaecide and would leave my pump running for several days. After 3-4 days I'd have crystal clear water, and it would basically stay like that all season.

This season, I did the same thing. Balanced my water, put in my copper algaecide, and left my pump running. Days went by and the water turned blue and looked clean, but stayed cloudy. One week went by and nothing. Two weeks, and nothing. Now I'm at over 3 weeks and still have cloudy water.

Here's what I've done:

I've tested my water 3 times with two different pool companies. Chemistry is perfect.

I added cellulose fiber to the filter to improve filtration.

I added clarifier.

I've also added something Clear Aid that a local pool store recommended.

Nothing has helped. Nothing has changed the condition of the water.

At this point I'm starting to wonder if there is something wrong with my new sand filter. I checked the hoses, and it is plumbed correctly. However, I'm pretty sure the installers didn't add water before or after they added the sand to my new filter. I'm not completely sure, but I suspect that might be the case.

Anyway, I'm going on 4 weeks now with no improvement. I just tested my water again two days ago, and the chemistry is still good. I'm at the end of my rope, and starting to get desperate for answerers.

I'm also attaching a link to some pics of what the water looks like. Does anyone have any suggestions? What am I doing wrong, if anything? Is my new filter cooked? Any advice would be appreciated!

Update: It was the chain. It was too tight. Whoever assembled it at the store didn't leave enough slack. So loosening it solved the problem. I'll leave my post up in case anyone else has a similar problem.

Hey all,

I'm new to this group, but I just bought my daughter a new bike over the weekend. She got on to ride it the next day and I heard an awful popping/cracking sound as she was riding.

I had her bring it to me so I could check it out. I noticed the sound being produced as I turned the pedals with my hands. The sound happens all the time, about 2-3 times per rotation. I suspect it might be that the chain is too tight, but I'm not sure. There is literally zero give or flex though, so maybe?

I'm adding a video I uploaded to YouTube that demonstrates the problem it's having. Any guesses? Any suggestions? I'd rather not return it, but I can also file a warranty claim if I need to.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
