Highsec is safe they said

THEY LIED!!!

Highsec is not safe. Not at all. As someone suggested to me on my last post I went to do some exploration on my Jita trader's Heron.

My future main is training Caldari Frigate 5 for Buzzard and has no other skills yet. I remap her after it's done as all scanning and PI skills are Int based.

So I found some wormholes. But inside nothing interesting. The owners picked them clean besides ore sites.

But in highsec I found some relic and data sites. The relic sites gave 0.1M loot. The data site gave 4.2M on its first container. When I went for the second, those nasty guristas appeared. I figured I keep hacking until my shields are low, like in the newbie missions. Instead, they oneshotted me.

Nasty Guristas, you'll pay for this! One day I come back and hack in something much bigger. I googled ships that are good at hacking. Tengu - Covert Reconfiguration came up. Revenge is coming Guristas! (in 2027, because that ship needs some training)

PS: I had the last laugh. I docked my pod and got a free corvett. Warped back to the site and the Guristas were gone and in the Heron wreck they left some modules and the 4.4M loot that I took from the first container. That will pay for replacement Herons.

Thank you guys for being so welcoming!

Few days ago I asked a few questions about EVE Online, a game I found on youtube. All I got here was helpful information, suggestions. Thank you!

So I downloaded and kept trying the game for two days in alpha and also watched more videos. After the scanning training missions, I was sold. I bought 3 months of omega and 3 months of alt training.

My first character will be a trader - motivated by the Sir Smashalot video, this character is doing lvl 2 distribution missions for Caldary Navy, to get standings for broker relations.

My second character - who will be my main - is training for a Buzzard. In two weeks, she'll leave for WH space to scan and hack.

Thank you guys for being so welcoming!

Pre-Newb question: is industry/farming worth it?

At first I'd like to thank this awesome community the 100+ answers to my question yesterday. All of them helpful, I didn't get trolling. You are very welcoming players, that's a huge plus to EVE.

So, I'm not a player yet, I'm searching for my next game where I put all my gaming time. I found EVE on youtube.

I've watched the videos recommended to me yesterday which lead me to discover PLEX. So here is my dilemma: I can make 10 Euros an hour. On the EVE Online Store, for 10 Euros you can buy 200 PLEX. According to EVE Tychoon, you can sell a PLEX for 4.6-4.8M ISK. So in an hour I must make 940M ISK with industry or farming, or I'm better off taking an extra shift at my work and buy PLEX.

Sure, if the farming activity is fun itself, then it's gaming. But honestly, watching mining and ratting videos I doubt they are my bread and butter. Planet factories and hacking are more interesting to me.

So my question is: if my main focus is PVP and helping my team with hauling and stuff, should I bother with farming or should I just work extra shifts, buy PLEX, use it to buy PVP ships?

Is there a way to matter in EVE?

Hi,

I'm not a player (yet). I found EVE after youtube recommended me a video about $700K was lost in a video game battle.

I've been watching some recent videos about EVE. They are all about either:

  • how to make ISK

  • how to find a corp to chill

  • some battle where one guy leads a fleet into victory or defeat

You can make video game money in every video game. You can chill in every video game. You can join in a zerg in every MMO.

EVE seems to be special because you can make a difference yourself - according to the hype. I watched a video about Pandemia Hord being no more. Someone made that happen.

My question is to the people actually playing: is it true, or is it just a marketing pitch? How many of you - or someone you personally know - made something that affected the EVE world. Or is that reserved to some super-veterans and all I can hope for is making video game money and being in someone's zerg defeating someone else's zerg?

Please advise me.

Advice to newbies from a newbie: play ranked!

Hi,

I'm playing this game for two weeks now and loving it. I played a buch of ships from different lines.

As I do battles, my "acces level" increase and recently I reached the one that gives ranked battles. I also got a tutorial mission to it. I didn't have a T8 ship to participate, so I picked the ship with highest tier and most XP, the Fubuki and played exclusively on that, with all economic signals on. I quickly got the Akasuki, which was HARD until my captain reached lvl 10 and I could decrease my detection range below 7 km. With all the signals, today I researched the Kagero. It was expensive, I had to sell a bunch of ships, including the Akasuki to be able to buy and equip it with the recommended modules.

Oh boy, that 5.4km detection range is sweet. So are the 16 torpedoes at once using torpedo reloader. I used my collected free XP to upgrade the ship modules and without playing a single random battle, off I went to ranked.

And now I'm rank 5 (in the bronze leaque) and loving it. All enemies are the same tier as I am, unlike in randoms. Poor Akasuki was deleted by Kitekazes far too many times. I'm getting lots of rewards for playing ranked and I'm still running economic signals, so if I finish bronze, I can go to silver with the next ship. I just hope I'll earn enough credits to buy it without selling the Kagero, as that's my favorite of the ships I played.

So fellow newbies, be brave and go ranked!
