I never realize how complex their chords were in their songs.

I recently started learning some of their songs after falling back in love with them through Clone Hero. While learning This Will Get Better and St. Veronica, I was shocked. I'm not only stunned at the more complex chords, but the speed at which they move their fingers for such complex manipulations. It's very impressive.

A discussion of the Final Boss and what they represent.

Today, I commented on a post discussing my thoughts on Necron being one of the most all encompassing final bosses. And it got me thinking. What are your interpretations of the fight? I've had years to think about it and some of the oldheads here might remember a hella long Gamefaqs article that was essentially a book explaining all the connections that FFIX has to the rest of the series. Here are my thoughts.

Kuja: Well...my time is almost up. Time to die, everyone!\"

Even before the final fight against Kuja, there is a clear ring going around the crystal. This, to me, is an obvious representation of Necron before we fight him. There are also the two colored rings, representing Terra and Gaia. This, I think, is the crystal showing a sense of understanding or will. Kuja is the red that Bran Bal would have become, and Zidane and his party are the blue of Gaia.

Once Kuja sacrifices everyone and everything to destroy the crystal, the party are sent to the end of time. A trope in FF games since the first game, and a nod to another boss from another game, that I'll point out in a minute.

Necron: You stand before the final dimension, and I am the darkness of eternity...

Now, I've always considered Necron to be heavily inspired by ExDeath from FFV. Both villains are nihilist and desire the erasure of existence itself. ExDeath seeks to send all to the Void, Necron to the Zero World. Both have a heavy tree motif; Neo ExDeath is literally part tree, while Necrons defeat leads to the Iifa tree finally collapsing. They also have similar color motifs, but I think that's mostly a coincidence. And finally, they both have a signature Grand Cross attack.

Before going on, I am aware Necron was added late and the meta of it all is that he doesn't have any real representation in the game. But at least it makes thematic sense to have a character that represents nothing when the entire game focuses on life and death, and what possibly comes next.. or doesn't.

In the end, my interpretation is this:

When Kuja destroys everything, the Crystal doesn't break. It sends the party to the end of time to literally stop the end of everything. But Necron was always waiting for it. The antithesis to the crystal: The Ring.

So the Crystal having will, sends them and they appear on the Hill of Dispair where Necron tells the party that Kuja's actions show it. So the ring being there means he literally saw what was happening. So the same way the ring has a personality and desire for nothing, the Crystal must have the same thing. Yin and Yang.

Necron: Why defy your fate? Is the will to live that powerful...?

After the party defeats Necron, as I mentioned, the Iifa Tree collapses and Kuja is shown to have survived. I think this HAS to be the Crystal's doing since there's no way he could have survived everything after trying to end it all.

In the end, the party conquers all of their fears once having literally faced the end of everything. Vivi is still frightened by death, but is accepting it as a part of life. Amarant understands Zidane's philosophy, as does Freya. Quina has tasted everything and developed true friends after being a loner their entire life. Steiner openly accepts Zidane as the one for Princess Garnet. Dagger and Zidane are the only ones who have it in the air so we get the grand finale. Thus wrapping everyone's story up in a neat bow.

I hope you'll all share your interpretations or theories as well.

OH! and I know Necron is also HEAVILY inspired by Cloud of Darkness from FFIII, but I am not as well versed in that game, having only beaten it once many years ago. Please let me know what you guys think and thanks for reading.

Dragon based on the Isle of the Beast

So I'm DMing a campaign of D&D 5e that includes the Land of the Green Isles. I've mostly populated the island with dinosaurs and made Beast the lord of a small kingdom of Anthropomorphic humanoids. They will need to acquire a dragon scale which will be the big bad of the area. What I can't decide on is what the dragon should be? What color, metal, or unique type of dragon it should be. Any suggestions using the worlds logic of what little is known about the Isle of the Beast?

Just caught up on Absolute Batman and about halfway through AWW.

I'm so fucking pumped!! The comic has been so goooooood!!! I fucking love how unsure and insecure Bruce Wayne feels as such a different character. The way they involved so many classic rogues into new ways. The BODY HORRROR!!! Dear god the body horror is just too fucking amazing. Is it over the top? Sure, but I don't read comics to not feel impressed. I legit had to put the book down to ogle at some of the artwork. I thought for sure I wasn't going to like it, but it's my favorite comic of recent years. What do you guys think? I love the whole storyline with Bane! And I loved Ivy's new form, though didn't care for her being called Ivy from a young age. But what they've done with the Joker is interesting, and this may be my favorite version of Scarecrow. I also can't believe some of the more recent comics have taken some chances I didn't think they'd take, at least not this soon. Does anyone have any idea how long the run is supposed to be? I usually just collect for covers, but this one may get me to start investing.

A Wonderland campaign.

So the next chapter of my campaign is based off of King's Quest VI and they're on the Isle of Wonder. Long story short, I'm getting to a point where they reach Bookspire, a large tower made of books, but it's guarded by a Behir (Bookworm). I want them to fight it, but I want them to think they have a way to talk to him first. I just can't think of anything clever. Wonderland, as well as other works of Lewis Carol, were never my strong suit. Perhaps some advice? They'll have to go meet the red and white queen later as well as the Mad Hatter and the March Hare & Dormouse. So those are all their own encounters. Any recommendations for a preemptive conversation?

Looking for real world recorded songs that can fit into my world.

So recently we started a campaign and I'm spending some extra time creating the lore for the world so it feels real. I have a playlist of songs, mostly from the Longest Johns and a few others here and there but what songs would diegetically fit into a world like D&D. I'd love some to represent specific worker groups, classes, or perhaps battle songs. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
