It’s been a great time. I first joined in 1996 and left for a decade or so to raise my kids. I rejoined later up until this year when I’m retiring.

It’s been a great run. I mostly did PE which I enjoyed a lot. I’m not gonna get into current politics even though that’s one of the main reasons I’m retiring at this point.

But the point of this post is this: after the October meeting when I announced my retirement at the end of this year, a member made the comment “ too bad all the young guys are leaving and we’re still here.”

I am almost 70 years old.

And I was the youngest person in the room at that meeting.

Back when I first joined in the 90s, we had a great flotilla. Three boats doing controls every weekend continual PE classes. But then all the old guys died out. And then their widows started to die out.

They knew how to do it back in the 90s, but they didn’t know how to continue in the new millennium.

That’s our biggest problem.

50+ years ago, In the ‘60s, she was touring with Porter Wagoner. They played a little stage in New Tripoli, Pennsylvania, Ontelaunee Park.

Her tour bus was parked behind the stage. I was 10 or so at the time. My twin brother and I snuck around behind the stage and to see if we could meet Dolly

I knocked on the tour bus door and Dolly appeared like the light from a star.

“Tweens!” she exclaimed and gave us each a kiss.

I have had bragging rights forever.

A sophisticated, well-dressed woman walks into a shop that sells very expensive carpets. She looks around, spots a beautiful rug, and walks over to inspect it. As she bends to feel the texture of the rug she farts loudly.

Very embarrassed, she looks around nervously to see if anyone has noticed. Unfortunately, standing next to her is a salesman.

"Good day, ma'am, how may we help you today?"

Flustered, she asks, "Sir, how much does this rug cost?"

"Madam," he answers, "Retail is $2,364.19. but discounts are available.”

(spoilers) Odyssey review

I saw “the Odyssey” in the theaters on Thursday night, the first day it was available.

It was swell.

I liked it better than “the Prestige” and “Inception”. I liked “Interstellar” and “Oppenheimer” just the same. “Tenet” was shit. [while there were flashbacks in “the Odyssey “ it wasn’t filmed backwards like “Tenet”. (What was up with that backwards stuff?)]

No-one got naked in “the Odyssey” (unlike “Oppenheimer”) and there were no nuclear bombs in it (unlike “Oppenheimer” also). No one got squashed in a cage (“the Prestige”).

It was loud, though.

It reminded me of “Chariots of Fire” because there was lots of running on beaches.

The best part was when the Ethiopian (I assume) suitor said
“you’re Odysseu glug”

All in all it was so enjoyable for all (except the cyclops’ eyeball and the dead trojans. and the dead suitors. and Odysseus, who, even though he spent 7 years on an island boinking Keanu Reeves’ hot “Devil’s advocate” wife, ended up with 2 arrows in his back. )

Definitely going to see it again in theaters (because I missed so much dialogue the first time).

11/10 would recommend (except no nakeds)
