My first Piedmont tobacco cards — amazed at how thin they are!

Just got these two today — Jimmy Sheckard and Whitey Alperman Piedmont tobacco cards.

These are my first cards from this era, and the first thing that surprised me was just how thin they are. You see pictures of these old tobacco cards all the time, but actually holding cards that are more than 100 years old is a completely different experience.

I paid $65 total for the pair. I honestly don’t know if I paid too much, got a decent deal, or landed somewhere in the middle, but either way, I think they’re really cool to own. Part of the reason I bought them was simply because I wanted to see and feel what an original tobacco card from this era was actually like.

They definitely aren’t high-grade examples, especially the Alperman, but that doesn’t bother me. The wear almost adds to the history for me.

For those of you who collect tobacco cards, what do you think? Did I do okay at $65 for the pair? And any advice for someone just starting to get into these older cards is appreciated!

My second TTm

Just received my second TTM today. I sent him a 1964 Topps Vern Law and 1985 Topps Father/Son, SASE, handwritten letter. Mr. Law signed both cards in blue and generously added multiple career inscriptions including “2x All-Star,” “2x World Series Champs 1960,” and “HOF 2025.” He also included a signed custom card and a thoughtful printed note explaining his autograph process and charitable donations. A truly memorable return from a class act. Thank you, Mr. Law!

Help needed

Can anyone identify this autograph? I have no idea who the signer is. I’ve included a few photos of the signature, and I can provide additional pictures of the baseball if needed. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Help with autograph please.

Can anyone identify this autograph? It’s on an official 2016 MLB All-Star Game baseball and is inscribed ‘1st ASG,’ so it should be a player making his first All-Star appearance in 2016. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

My first TTM

My very first TTM success came in today, and I’m pretty excited about it!

1959 Topps Bobby Shantz signed in a beautiful blue ink. I mailed it on June 3 and had it back in my hands on June 11—just 8 days!

The coolest part? Bobby Shantz is now 100 years old and is still kind enough to take the time to sign for collectors. I think that’s absolutely incredible.

No personalization or extras, just a clean signature on a classic card, and honestly that’s exactly what I was hoping for. The top loader got a little beat up in the mail (looked like it got caught in a sorter), but thankfully the card itself came through just fine.

I’ve only recently gotten into sending TTM requests after years of collecting, and I have to admit… opening that envelope was a pretty special feeling. It’s amazing that legends from this era still take the time to connect with fans.

Here’s to hopefully many more successes to come. Thank you, Mr. Shantz, and congratulations on reaching 100 years old. You made this collector’s day!
