Wondering about Canadian IMG Pathway

I was raised in Alberta and have Canadian citizenship. I am going to Australia for med school and am considering staying in Australia for their internship and PGY2 years to explore the path of obtaining Australian Permanent Residency. This is just something I’m considering and it’s not confirmed what I will be doing. I want to either complete residency in Australia through FM or Psych or match back to Canada for FM or Psych.

Just really how competitive is it for a Canadian IMG to come back to Canada? I’m hearing conflicting takes that apparently being Canadian doesn’t give an advantage for the match. Is FM still a reasonable path to obtain if trying to match back? If I don’t match immediately but only once I spend 2 years post graduation in Australia, does this weaken my CARMs application?

Thanks!

Moving to Darwin

I am 26 y/o male Canadian moving to Darwin to do medical school. I come from larger sized cities and I understand the Darwin population is relatively small.

What can I expect in regard to socializing and meeting people within my age group? I would say I’m quite social. Is there a decent nightlife? I’ll be in Darwin for at least 4-6 years. Also importantly, what is the dating scene like? Is it easy/ hard to meet singles around my age?

Thanks!

Is it too early for me to apply for Student Visa?

My program starts in February 2027 and I already received my CoE. If I lodge my visa now, is it true that it won't be assessed until November, or is there a chance it can get assessed immediately once I apply? I'm a Canadian Citizen for reference.

Is the career still worth it?

As an incoming medical student, I’ve been hearing that with scope creep of other mid levels, it’s saturating the profession as well as IMGs getting pumped into the healthcare system. How do you anticipate the salaries and scope of practice to be impacted over the next decade?

Concerned About Student Visa Application

I am a Canadian with acceptance to Australian Medical School. I once had to withdraw my application to enter the USA because I didn't realize at the time I would need a return ticket as I've made this trip many times on the road before. Additionally, I faced a dismissal from a program at one point because of unexpected mental health which was also diagnosed as Bipolar Disorder. So my risk factors are that I had a slight Canada/USA border issue, a dismissal, and my mental health condition. Is it still realistic that I can obtain the student visa? I plan to lodge mid August but I see the time can take anywhere from 17 days to 7 months. I am going to attend a Tier 1 university and Canada is a low risk country. I am unsure how long the processing might take as well.

Re-joining BF1 as an Old Player

I loved BF1 when I was younger and I have a strong nostalgia for it. I play on PS5 and I just downloaded the game again (I have premium). Is the community healthy? I play from Canada and will be moving to Australia soon. I wonder how active the servers are and if it's easy to find games. It's sad to see it's less active than it used to be when I played back in the day.

Lawyer says I have a reasonable prospect of success

I’m applying to LOCATION: Australia from Canada for a student visa. I have slight complications with my file. During my consultation, the lawyer said he thinks I can get the visa but then started repeating that “it’s more likely than not” that I will obtain the visa. After the consultation, he advised by email that I have “reasonable prospects of success”. I feel slightly discouraged and don’t know if this entails a mere 51 percent chance of success or if I have a good chance of getting the visa. I would appreciate insights into this matter. Thanks!

Wondering about my Situation

I’m a Canadian born in India (not that it matters) applying for a subclass 500 for an MD program in Australia. Prior to this I completed a BSc and then started an MSc which I later withdrew from to start Optometry. Unfortunately I faced a dismissal and pivoted to Engineering. After some reflection I decided I wanted to stick to healthcare and gained my acceptance. Additionally, I faced a bit of a pickle trying to enter the United States. I don’t need a visa to enter but I booked a one way ticket as I was unsure how long my visit would be. At the preclearance, the officers questioned me and asked me to withdraw my application to enter the country.

I’m definitely concerned about my situation as it’s my dream to pursue an MD degree. Afterwards, I plan to return to my country to practice. Canadian medicine is highly competitive and restricted to domestic applicants.

I received a Section 212(a)(7)(A)(i)(I) of the INA (Voluntary Withdrawal)

I received a Section 212(a)(7)(A)(i)(I) of the INA at the Pearson Airport (Toronto) for Voluntary Withdrawal of Admission back in September 2024. Basically, I was let go from my study program in Chicago and was paying significant rent so I wanted to visit for leisure and then return back to Canada (Canadian Citizen). The officers told me they assumed I was going to stay in Chicago to work. Unfortunately at the time, I didn't know I needed to book a return ticket before trying to enter. The sent me to secondary processing and I left the area "without incident".

Now, I'm applying for a student visa in Australia and need to declare this incident on my application. I remember briefly being somewhat defensive and the officers were a bit rude. I don't know if they have logs of what happened internally, and getting the FOIP will take forever. Simply, I will mention on my visa application that it was an honest mistake that I didn't book a return ticket and I voluntary withdrew instead of a ban, forced removal or deportation.

All in all, I don't know exactly what this section code of the INA entails. Supposedly it means immigrant intent which I am worried is a red flag. How should I approach this situation? It makes me quite nervous about obtaining my Australian visa.

Confused about Psych Competitiveness vs NSW Registrar Vacancies

I understand there is a severe Psych Crisis in NSW. At the same time, it is said that registrar positions are becoming very competitive now. If I decided to apply for registrar positions in outer-metro/regional NSW, would it still be that difficult to secure a position after PGY2? I'm wondering about this in the early to mid-2030s.

Inquiry about Optimizing Chances at Psych Reg

I’m really grateful to be an incoming med student, however in my mid to late 20s. I have had significant experiences being a patient under psychiatric care as well as taking care of family afflicted by mental illness. I am very keen on getting onto psych reg after completing med school. I understand that it’s possible to do so in PGY3 but that the competition is now stiff, however, the specialty is still undersubscribed. I’d like to get on as soon as possible as I am entering medicine a bit late. Any words of wisdom to optimize my chances? Is it really hard to get onto? I would say that I’m highly motivated and would love to find success in this aspiration.

PSA To MCAT Takers On P/S (I got 131)

You genuinely do not need any other resource besides Pankow. This was the biggest concern I had in resource utilization during my prep. Just genuinely grind it. The important caveat though is set your FSRS retention at 90% and you're golden. Just constantly grind Pankow. It's so painful but so worth it!

Post Exam Guilt

I feel a sense of guilt after taking my MCAT on Friday. It was harder than I expected and I know the curving will help normalize my score, but, I can't help but think there should have been better ways to have prepared for that exam. Also, I only scored 123 once on CARS FL 2 and the rest have been 125 with one 126. I will be so devastated if I get a 123. Sadly, I had poor sleep before my exam and am worried that even though I had a relatively easy CARS section I will score below a 124 :( and that I made silly mistakes
