What’s the deal?

With the house at the very end of Ocean Blvd in Cherry Grove?

I’ve looked up the property records before, so I can see who owns it, but it looks like it’s in pretty rough shape despite being an absolutely gorgeous home in a perfect location.

We walk by it at least a dozen times a year, but have never seen the car there move.

Can I buy it? (Joke, I cannot buy it)

Three names at orientation

Last night I went to my daughter’s pre-K orientation.

The school is pre-k to 12, extremely small (like 30 kids across grades). Hippie/outdoorsy in orientation, and totally secular.

And yet, around the table, there were three boys with the same name.

Not River or Sage

Not Theo

Not Liam or Henry or Noah

They were all named…..

Peter!

Ranked 187 in 2025, and not even in the Top 100 in my state.

As a name nerd I was absolutely delighted. I think Peter is great and underused classic - except in this tiny school!

Just a cheesy post…

About how lovely everything is right now.

Despite the drought, the green is greening, and it is spectacular. I love dropping my kid off at camp and driving to work with the dense green all around me.

Even looking out the window on a recent flight - just looking down on a canopy.

For all the shit we often give this little city of ours (and much of it is valid), it really is beautiful right now.

As a female attorney, Mike Cutter triggers the hell out of me.

Too many men like him early in my career in a wonky, academic practice area.

Still too many men like him 15 years later, but at least I now have both the experience and peri-menopausal don’t-give-a-fuckiness to tell them to shut up.

Is the water feature at Gipson Play Plaza open?

Hi, Durhamites here hoping to head to Dix Park for the Sunflower Fest!

I’m guessing the water feature at Dix Park is open despite drought restrictions (I think they use recycled water) but I can’t seem to confirm.

Anyone here know before I’m forced to use my phone to actually call someone?

Is this house haunted or what?

I’ve been watching this house go on and off the market for years.

What’s the deal? I’m guessing demons, but maybe plumbing issues? Or both?

Tell me your favorite native plant.

Since we’ve been working on increasing the native plants in yard I’ve been noticing how many people’s gardens are just exploding with NC natives.

So tell me, what’s your favorite native plant or tree? And post a pic!

So If Coffeeshop is incredible

*Soif

I knew the new coffee adventure from some of then folks from the Durham’s coffee bar would be great, but not HOW great.

Gorgeous, gorgeous space on Main, friendly people with familiar faces, and a lightening-quick $5.15 iced latte (what is this, 2018? Can I afford a house in this Durham?)

Stop by!
